Fortunately, black and white stand out sharply from the shades of brown that dominate the crowd; it doesn't take Kenai long to spot Dash, who seems to be on his way back already. Other bears have noticed the cub as well, and a few of them watch him curiously. They look concerned, and Kenai imagines they'll start crowding around and asking the boy where his parents are if he doesn't step in first. He picks up his pace to meet Dash halfway.
"Hey," he says with an uncertain smile, hesitating over what to say next. Since he doesn't know what upset the cub in the first place, he's afraid he'll say something that will make him run off again. "Um, I was just coming to find you. We were afraid something was wrong."

Dash just sighed sadly "Something is wrong Kenai I wouldn't have just run off like that if something wasn't wrong. But, thanks for coming to look for me. It means a lot you'd do that. Don't think I ever had anyone that cared that much about me." Dash said with a little bit of a smile.
Dash looked down at his feet. And then looked up at Kenai again. "I guess I better just tell you what made me upset in the first place." Dash said all though he didn't know where to start or anything.
"Once I tell you this you can not tell anyone else about this except maybe Koda and Ken'ichi. Other then that Please don't tell anyone. I am trusting you here Kenai. The truth is...... " Dash said looking around just to make sure no other bears were around or anything.
"The truth is....." Dash started once again. Dash took a deep breath. "The truth is .... I don't know how to fish. I just never learned how. You see my parents never taught me anything. They didn't seem to really like me for one reason or another. And well I tried fishing but I could never do it right. I was to afraid to tell you guys because I thought you guys would laugh at me. And that's why I ran off when Koda suggested we do some fishing" Dash said putting his head down sadly.

Dash has a secret? His curiosity piqued again, Kenai leans closer to hear it, nodding his agreement not to tell. When the cub explains his problem, Kenai at first just blinks in surprise. Then, after a moment, he starts to laugh -- but stops quickly in horror, realizing his laughter will be taken the wrong way.
"Sorry," he says hastily, "I didn't mean -- it's just, actually, I don't know how either! Seriously, I can't catch a fish to save my life. You can't be worse than me." He grins in embarrassment. It's easier to make fun of himself when there's no one helping him make fun. "Koda won't laugh at you, I promise. I mean, he laughs at me, but...that's different. He'll understand. Maybe he can even teach you."

"Uh-huh." Koda said skeptically. The way he froze and he ear language spoke louder than what he said. He took another bite of salmon and pushed it away from him lazily, finished with his lunch now that something more interesting had caught his attention. He rolled over onto his back and stretched, eyes still on the black cub.
"So what really happened? Did you get in a fight? I heard that mountain lions can be pretty vicious...Bucky, one of my best friends, told me about mountain lions! Wow, I wouldn't want to get in a tangle with one of those..." While talking, he managed to roll back onto his stomach and, still laying down, he smiled innocently and looked over at the black cub curiously, expecting him to share his story.

"I fell." Ken'ichi repeated himself with deeper emphasis this time. He didn't sounded happy at all either. Well who would be in a good mood if this cub wouldn't take a hint and insisted on digging the truth about something he doesn't have a right to know about in the first place.
"I fell down a cliff, OK?" The cub added with a low growl as he turned to face Koda, his eyes in a glare as the claws on his left front paw (Which was pinning down his food) pierced the salmon's hide. "It was raining and I slipped. It's not a big deal and it wasn't even that big of a drop!"
Downright lie, but it sounds convincing enough, at least that's what Ken'ichi thinks. Whatever he can say to get the cub to shut up and let him enjoy his food in peace. Besides, he wouldn't believe him if he told the truth...

Dash could only just stare at Kenai. He couldn't believe Kenai couldn't fish. He had never heard of a grown bear that didn't know how to fish. The way Dash saw it Kenai lied to him to make him feel that he wasn't alone and that he wasn't the only one. But, Dash had to admit nobody had ever gone that far out of his way to make him feel better. And ZKenai, Koda, and Kenichi, were his friends . They would have understood.
"You really think Koda could teach me how to fish"? Dash asked his ears rising in anticipation. "Kenai, I'm really sorry for running off like that I guess I just felt if you guys knew the truth you'd just laugh and tease me like all the other bears I have met" Dash said.

Seeing the kid get his hopes up, Kenai hopes his suggestion wasn't a mistake; he just offered Koda's help without Koda's knowledge, putting pressure on both of them to follow through.
"Maybe," he clarifies with a nervous smile.
When Dash apologizes for running away, Kenai smiles with more confidence and waves a paw dismissively. "Ah, don't worry about it; I understand. Now, what do you say we head back? There won't be any teasing -- not from me and Koda, anyway. If anyone else tries, they'll have to deal with me." He winks.

Koda, taken aback by the sudden change in reaction from the other cub, drops the subject. He mutters "Jeez, it was just a question..." under his breath (just loud enough for Keni'chi to barely hear) and goes back to his fish, not really enjoying it all that much anymore. He feels a little uncomfortable with the other cub now and wish Kenai to come back soon, glancing the way his big brother left.

"Hmph..." Turning his shoulder to Koda Ken'ichi resumed with his food. Well if he didn't wanted to get that kind of reaction then he shouldn't have pushed. Cubs are a pain. He knew he should've just went on his way instead of listening to the big bear...Kenai was it?
Although maybe he was a bit harsh on the cub, at least with his tone of voice. Maybe he should watch his attitude a bit more, before he...Wait a minute, why is he debating whether or not to watch his attitude? He lives alone and travels alone, why does he need to keep an eye on how he reacts? He doesn't need anyone, and he sure doesn't care what others think of him or about their feelings at all.
But still...Why does he feel bad about snapping at Koda like that? Great, he's starting to care about proper ethics toward others. And it's a nagging feeling he can't ignore any longer.
"Look, I'm sorry I snapped at you." Ken'ichi managed to break the silence. What am I apologizing for...?

Koda's ears perk up slightly at the sound of Keni'chi apologizing. He waits a few moments before responding. "It's ok." He says softly, forcing a smile at Keni'chi. "I mean, I was just asking because I'm concerned for you..." He says sympathetically. "It looks like it hurt, that's all." His smile is a little more natural now. He's curious as to what Keni'chi's hiding with this story, but doesn't press any further, not wanting to hurt him with his questions.

Concerned? How could he be concerned for him? They only just met. Besides, who would be concerned about him? He's all alone and just watches for himself. He doesn't need his pity, much less worrying about him.
"Well ummm, it did hurt..." Ken'ichi added as he traced a claw of his over his scar. Still, the thought that someone is concerned for him kind of makes him feel...Well, like a somebody. After so many days and nights of seeing selfishness between others, it's a refreshing change to see somebody else concerned about others...

Koda jumps on that concession the black cub gives him."Yeah, it certainly looks like it did hurt." Koda said solemnly, unusual for him. "I've never had a cut like that before...even from a *coughs lightly* a big fall..." He looks hesitantly over at the other cub, wondering if he took the hint.

"Thanks Kenai, You're a real friend" Dash said looking up at Kenai you can tell by the look on his face that he was very grateful to have a friend especially after the way he acted. It was at that point when he realised maybe Kenai and Koda and Ken'ichi were different then the other bears he had met . Maybe just maybe these bears were nicer then any other bear he had met.
He shook off his thinking to himself and smiled at Kenai. "So Kenai I barely even know you how about you tell me a little bit about yourself" Dash asked with a spring in his step looking up in Kenai happily.

Kenai's a little taken aback by the depth of the cub's gratitude; it makes him grateful for the thick fur that hides his blush. He looks away. "Aw, it's no big deal."
He begins to walk back toward the others, feeling oddly giddy -- the effects of doing a good deed, or just extreme hunger? His euphoria is soon deflated, however, when Dash tries to make innocent conversation, naturally picking the most difficult subject. Kenai stiffens, and his easy smile becomes more strained. He laughs nervously.
"Eheheh...about me? I'm really not that interesting..." He pauses to think for a moment. Calm down. This isn't so hard. Just the truth, minus some details. "Well, uh...I used to live far away from here, near the ocean. I had two older brothers, and we lived in a big...family. Kind of like this one here. And we were pretty happy...but then things changed." He sighs, looking distant, but shakes himself from the mood quickly. "I left home, and then I met Koda. We're not actually related, but we've sort of become like brothers."
Speaking of Koda, he and Ken'ichi are coming into view now. Kenai looks up, smiling with relief.

Here Dash was spilling his guts knowing full well that Kenai could keep his secret. But Kenai was keeping secrets from him? "Wait, wait, wait, hold on Kenai." Dash says stopping midway. "Kenai it would only be fair if you told me what you were hiding from me. If I could trust you with a big secret. Then you can trust me with Yours Kenai. I feel that since I told you something very secret that you shouldn't hide things from me. But, if you really don't trust me even though I trust you I understand" Dash said trying his best not to sound hurt even though deep down he really was. Dash sighed "let's just go see Koda and Ken'ichi it's been a while since I last saw them and maybe Koda can teach me how to fish" Dash said. His smile and the spring he had in his step before had disappeared. What could have been so secret that Kenai couldn't even tell him? Dash knew it was none of his buisness but still Dash felt bad because he trusted Kenai but Kenai didn't seem to trust him. But, somehow Dash knew that Kenai didn't mean to hurt his feelings. It just seemed like he did. "Okay we don't need to talk about you. Talk about your time meeting Koda. You say you aren't related but you guys are like brothers. So, how did you first meet Koda?" Dash asked trying to just make conversation without making both of them uncomfortable. Even though he was pretty uncomfortable and sad as it was.
