OOC: "Nuttier than a chipmunk's cache" hoo hoo you have some good lines Epesi. Imaginary cookies for Kenai for figuring out that Roanoke's a snob. Aye Roanoke is VERY full of himself- based Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter series. We'll see how arrognat Roanoke is when he meets his sons. ;D BIC: "Well I assume you know what a Bald Eagle is? A Phoenix is like that, only red-and-gold in color and with a crest and longer tail. They're firebirds- they are reborn from the ashes," Roanoke lectures.

"Thunderbirds, however, are rainbirds- their wingbeats sound like thunder," continues the Stag.

OOC: So sorry I put this off for so long! I meant to post this earlier today, but there's been a lot going on. I had a recital to go to. Anyway, I was thinking I might take over Rutt and Tuke in a minute here, as the bears won't likely be staying around once they meet up. Watch out for the sudden switch to third-person; I couldn't think of a better way to do it. (Read: I got lazy. ) BIC (Kenai): Roanoke's description of the phoenix doesn't seem particularly unusual, though I don't think I've ever seen a bird quite like that before. Then he gets to the part about rebirth from the ashes, and I blink, not entirely certain what to make of that; as I'm trying to figure out what ashes they are reborn from, the moose continues, going on to lecture about thunderbirds. Before I can stop myself, I quirk a brow, and ask, "And are they reborn from puddles?" I hardly notice Roanoke's response, as I catch a faint smell in the air. It quickly becomes stronger; the others must have noticed it by now, too. Before long, the odor is nearly overpowering, an acrid stench that makes my eyes water; it is, unmistakably, the smell of skunk spray. --- "It's still there, isn't it?" Rutt moans, walking dejectedly alongside his brother. Though it's hard for him to tell, with the scent still seemingly lodged in his nose, his soak in the river does not appear to have helped in the least to lift the stench; it has only left him dripping wet, and with water trapped in one ear. For Tuke, the predicament Rutt is in might have been slightly entertaining, except now he has to deal with the smell, too. In spite of this, he feels sympathy for his younger brother. "Well...it's not all that bad, eh? Barely noticeable." When his condolences earn only a dubious look, he falls silent for a moment. And then, "Look on the bright side...at least your sight's come back, eh?" As the brothers round a large tree, Rutt nearly runs into the strange bull moose on the other side, and stumbles back in surprise. At about the same moment, Tuke spots the bears. "How's it goin', Mr. Be-- uh, Kenai..." he jerks as Rutt stumbles into him, barely avoiding another antler entanglement -- and then, turning angrily to Rutt, he spots Roanoke. But he doesn't seem to recognize him, not just yet.

OOC: No need to apologize- as long as you're okay I don't care how long it takes for you to update. ;D I like presentation of the moose- very well done eh? Just curious: will Rutt and Tuke remember their mom?
BIC: "No- Thunberbirds aren't reborn at all, bear boy," replies Roanoke sarcastically, before freezing as they come upon the two moose.
One snuff assuress Raonoke that these are indeed his offspring. "Rutt? Tuke?" asks Roanoke, ears cocked.

OOC: Beauty! Thanks, eh? ;D Anyway, yeah, I figure they should remember their mother.
BIC: "Good day," Tuke offers, tilting his head a little as he looks at Roanoke. "Er...do I know you?" He shrugs off the fact that the stranger knows their names, but he is getting the odd feeling that he's seen this moose before.
Rutt, meanwhile, seems to be trying to shrink away behind Tuke, still brooding about his enounter with the skunk, and the lingering evidence of it; he might as well shout it to the whole forest.

"Aye, you know me very well. Tell me, where's Dulcis?" asks Roanoke, cocking his head.

"Aye, you know me very well. Tell me, where's Dulcis?" The brothers exchange glances at this statement; clearly, to Tuke, this is absurd. After all, if he knew Roanoke, then who would know he knew him better...than...he'd know? Well, it made sense a moment ago. In the confusion of Tuke's reasoning, he has nearly forgotten to answer the question. "Oh, right!" spurts Tuke, "You're looking for our mother, eh?" That seems to explain a lot, kind of. But it's been so long since he last saw Dulcis, and he has no clue where she might have gone since he and Rutt set out to seek their fortunes, so to speak. Tuke screws up his face as he tries to decide how to answer; after a moment of this, Roanoke says sadly, "You...don't know who I am, do you?" Baffled, Tuke looks over Roanoke again, certain he must know him, in spite of his complete lack of recollection. As if in defiance of this, Rutt mutters, "Well, I know I don't remember him." Tuke snorts. "Of course you don't remember, you hoofer. You weren't even...born...yet." And then, in an epiphany, Tuke realizes...that he just realized something. What was it? OOC: And yet again, I must apologize for taking so long. I hope it's not too confusing; I seem to be having trouble with the border between first- and third-person perspective. ;D Thank you for putting up with my frequent delays, and though it may be a bit early, Merry Christmas!

OOC: Oh you don't have to apologize, Epesi. As long as you're okay, I could care less how long it takes for you to post. I like the confusion- it helps the reader sympathize with Tuke and Rutt. Merry earl Christmas to you to eh? ;D BIC: "I am Roanoke, your father," says the stag softly. "Tuke, you don't even remember me?"

"Rutt is you name isn't it?" asked Roanoke as observed the younger brother. "Dulcis remembered my request. You look a lot like your mother."

OOC: Well, more than a week overdue, it's about time I got my rear in gear, eh? BIC: "I am Roanoke, your father," says the stag softly. "Tuke, you don't even remember me?" "...Oh." For a moment, that's all Tuke can say. The memory is there, just out of reach, like a bothersome itch. He can remember his father, distantly, but he can't make the connection from the foggy memories to the stag in front of him. Rutt steps forward, squinting at Roanoke suspiciously. "How do we know he really is our father, eh?" The younger brother quails slightly as Roanoke looks at him, but the stag only says, "Rutt is your name, isn't it? Dulcis remembered my request. You look a lot like your mother." Rutt backs down, but he still looks skeptical. Tuke sighs, still unable to fully place Roanoke. "I dunno, Dad," he says, tilting his head. "Refresh my memory, eh?" --- (Kenai) Koda and I slip away as the moose make their introductions. I'm just glad to get away from Roanoke--not to mention the skunk odor. But as we leave the moose family reunion behind us, I can feel Koda's gaze on me, and I pause to look at him. "What is it?" "Aren't we gonna wait for him to say 'thank you?'" I glance over my shoulder. "No, let's not spoil the moment." Especially since the "moment" doesn't seem to be going as Roanoke had hoped. I start walking again. "Anyway," I quip, "I doubt Roanoke has ever thanked someone in his life." I chuckle a little bit, but Koda isn't laughing; I stop quickly, with a sigh. Roanoke seems to bring out the worst in me. I feel a little bad for dumping him on Rutt and Tuke, but then I would hope he would treat his own sons better than he would a strange bear. We continue walking in silence, and I look at Koda again. "You okay, buddy? You've been kind of quiet. Is something wrong?" "Huh? No, no, I'm fine." He yawns on the last word. With a smile, I lean down. "Hop on." "I'm not tired," he protests, but climbs up anyway, with a grin. He falls asleep on my back as I pick out the trail back to where this started. OOC: That's all for the bears, for now anyway. ;D

OOC: I was worrying about you. ;D Still the wait is worth it- I love your posts. And I like Kenai's comment about "I doubt Roanoke has ever thanked someone in his life" is correct.
BIC: "Well," smirks Roanoke. "I can't say much to you, Rutt, seeing as your were but an egg inside Dulcis's womb when I left, but Tuke... Your mother was a honey-brown color, her favorite season was spring, mine was winter. You tended to add 'eh' to almost every blasted sentence. Your first experience with snow was quite a humorus event for your mother and me. You tend to forget everything a second from when you're told it. You first word was 'eh'. Your second was 'malted hops. You're scared of pine martins for some reason. You-" Roanoke rattled on it this vein of embrassing memories for some time.
