This is a WONDERFUL and perfect movie in my opinion.I mean when I got the soundtrack last year, and heard it I SO badly wanted to get this movie. It wasn't until early last month that I got it and I have watched it nearly 40,I'm guessing, times and its my favorite movie(sorry Brother Bear your still my second favorite)
And I just wanted to know if anyone else liked or watched the movie. What did you think of it? What would you rate it?
Rotten Tomatoes gave it 6./10 with 68% approval

I've seen Spirit, too; last spring I got the film and the soundtrack. I do like them both, but.. I just found the film a bit too hectic, because there were so many scenes with Spirit running away from something. It also annoyed me that it seemed to be completely ok if some white guy got badly hurt. Sure, they're supposed to be the "villains" of the story, and some of them did treat the natives and the horses ill, but I still didn't like the violence. But yeah, anyway I do like the film. The animation is beautiful, the story is touching and the soundtrack is amazing. Spirit, Rain and Little Creek are awesome I guess I would give it 8½ from 10

I think I more or less agree with Anya. Also, at times I thought the story was a little too heavy-handed and "message-y". My biggest problems, though, plot-wise? Spirit frees all of these domestic horses and it's supposed to be a good thing. However, many of them were still wearing harnesses and had bits in their mouths. Who's going to take those off now, huh? Those horses are going to starve to death. Also, Spirit set the forest on fire. XD Way to go, hero. Smokey wants a word with you... It just bugs me that Spirit causes all of this havoc and property damage and it is portrayed as heroic actions rather than what it is: a desperate animal freaking out and breaking stuff. But the animation is gorgeous, the film's pretty entertaining to watch, and the soundtrack is epic. I love Hans Zimmer (and I also enjoy Bryan Adams; I guess that part's hit or miss with some people, but I like the songs). My least favorite scene of the story, the aforementioned horse-freeing-train-smashing-fire-starting chase, happens to contain my absolute favorite part of the score. I often listen to that track while doing my art. :3

Yeah, I didn't like that either. And like I said, so many white guys got hurt and likely some of them even died. Friendly for kids.. When I was watching the film with my Mom, she noted that it was so unrealistic. Like when Spirit tries to save Rain from the river. She said that a horse can't swim in a rapid and carry another horse on its back. It's true, but.. well, I personally didn't have problems with that scene.

Well I can answer those stuff you guys have said.A movie is suppose to have alot of stuff in it.As for what happened in this,I think its spot on,a wild horse being caught should have struggled that much to get back to his homeland and back to his head.
I mean think about this, and answer this honestly:
What would YOU do if you was in Spirit's hooves? Would you just stand and take it or would you try and fight back to where you belong?
It may sound like I am getting mad or that, but its just I have a huge respect for this movie and how it was made, just like I am with BB&BB2.

Notice I never said that's not what a wild horse would do. My issue was with how the movie portrayed it. The film acts like he's A: brilliant and B: heroic, which is kind of ridiculous in the same way that a film portraying carnivores as evil for eating other animals is ridiculous. Speaking of which, I also remember that in the commentary they said they were originally going to have a rogue stallion attack the herd instead of a cougar. They changed it because they didn't want to portray an "evil" horse -- I don't remember exactly how they phrased it but I believe that was the gist. That irritated me; a rival horse would be no more evil than the cougar. I felt they were shying away from nature to portray a herd of horses as some kind of perfect utopian society. I'm not being disrespectful of the filmmakers. I may disagree with some of the decisions the writers made, but I always hold deep respect for the people who bring an animated film to life. I agree with you on this too. It's technically inaccurate, but it makes for a dramatic scene. It may be impossible, but it's believable enough within the context of the story; I doubt a mammoth could carry a full-grown grizzly with its trunk, and I'm pretty sure a moose can't do yoga. Not to nitpick, but I remembered one more thing about the movie that's incorrect. My dad and my brother pointed this out: the fort Spirit is taken to is in a desert, yet it's made entirely of wood. Where did they get all that lumber? XD

If you meant this chaos and hectic scenes with the "stuff", I might say that just having lots of it doesn't mean that a film would be good, and I know good films with not so much dramatic action scenes. I'm like that: a peaceful person that likes peaceful things. But hey, don't get me wrong; I do like action and excitement too, I just think that at times there can be too much action. And do tell me if I completely misunderstood what you said As for me being in a similar situation to Spirit's.. I would pray to God to help me. And of course I would want and possibly even try to escape - but if me escaping caused a terrible damage like Spirit did, I definitely would not see that as a good thing. But hey, having been so critical, I might forget about it for now and say more positive things. There are many wonderful scenes, like the opening (simply breathtaking) or the time Spirit spends in Little Creek's village, learning that not all humans treat horses badly, and falling in love with Rain. There is this timeless theme that patience and tenderness do much more good than violence and force; the soldiers couldn't tame Spirit because they tried to force him, but Little Creek was patient with him, and eventually gained his respect and trust. And towards the end, when the horses are set free and say good bye.. doesn't that just melt your heart.. Hehe, yeah, that's true And like I said, I'm pretty ok with that scene.

Well, you guys have your own thoughts on the movie and that what makes the world a wonderful place. The world would...suck if everyone agreeded to everything.
But I am just shocked abit how people can point out stuff and...not like it as much as me.I mean somethings might just come to question about it yes.But I just forget alot of it and enjoy the WHOLE movie itself and not just...worry about the little details that was off like what you said Epesi about the fort being made out of the wood.
I have a simple answer to that, there could have been trees around the area and they cut them down to build the fort. And about Spirit saveing Rain in the rapids, never say never about it happening, for all we know when a horse is pressured or that, they COULD do it and try to save the other horse, thought it might fail like Spirit did,it'd still try.

That kind of contradicts the first part of your post about different opinions. For everything you like, there are going to be people who just don't like it as much. And really, you can do a lot worse than the mild criticisms we've had for the movie. Some people hate it or think it's stupid. I don't, not by far. I quite like it, actually.
I can kind of understand where you're coming from; I know it hurts when people seem to be putting down something you like. Personally, I hate it when people say they hate a movie (or a book, a game, a song, a band, etc.), or any time they go from valid criticism to plain insults. I don't understand having such strong negative feelings for something so subjective, something meant to entertain. I have particularly broad tastes and high tolerance for these things; my feelings for a movie, for example, usually don't go lower than disinterest, distaste, or mild annoyance. It has to offend or otherwise upset me on a very personal level to get much of a negative emotional response out of me. Either I like something or I don't, but I rarely hate it.
So I myself can be kind of sensitive about these things and get upset easily, but as long as people "play nice" I can understand and respect a difference in tastes.
But I don't think there's a reason to be hurt about this. We've been pretty fair and mild in our criticism, and we haven't been all negative either. We do like the movie, and Anya gave it a pretty high score; 8.5 out of 10 isn't bad at all. I'm not sure what number I'd give it myself; I'm not very good at rating things. Without any in-depth analysis, I'd say...maybe 7. Again, not a bad score.
Now, this is a common argument I've seen on the internet, and it's kind of misguided. You're basically saying if I think about it at all I'm thinking about it too much. I don't spend a lot of time fretting about the mistakes just because I took a couple of seconds to mention it in a discussion.
Just because I (or in this case, my brother -- I wouldn't have spotted that one on my own) noticed a mistake doesn't mean I watch the film clinically scouring it for errors, unable to appreciate or enjoy it as a whole. That's not true at all. I suspend my disbelief and accept the movie's world until it's over, and I enjoy it thoroughly. If there's a really glaring mistake in some area I'm familiar with (like if someone were to mistake a leopard for a cheetah XD), I'll notice it right away, but if I'm enjoying the movie then I'll let it pass. Most of the time I don't notice a lot of errors until after the film, when I have time to think back on it all, and especially if I talk about it with my family or whoever I saw it with.
No, it's a vast, flat desert plain. You can tell by the sight of it that trees do not grow there. You can see for miles around and there are no tree stumps, no other trees, just one wooden fort in the middle of nowhere.
It's not terribly important, just a minor nitpick.
The point that was made was that it is a physical impossibility. Whether a horse would try is another matter. I don't know much about equine behavior myself, but I am highly doubtful.

If I had to choose between watching this movie(Or Brother Bear and Brother Bear 2) over these new movies like Avatar and whatever,I would stick to Spirit.
The movie is just what a movies needs to get the point across.Sure you can say stuff about how where are the tress in the desert scene or wither or not a real horse could save another like when Spirit did it to Rain. But if you really listened to the commentary, you will have all your questions answered.
After all this movie isn't talking about how America was founded and stuff in the Old West,it is basically a myth in the words of the makers of the movie,so if some spots you don't agree with sure that is fine, but sit back relax and enjoy what a REAL movie is suppose to be,just like with Brother Bear.
