Name: Specter (Ookpik) Age: Eight years old Gender: Male Species: Snowy owl Scientific name: Nyctea Scandiaca [I've also seen it given as Bubo scandiaca] Name Origin: Specter as in ghost; “Ookpik” from the Inuit name for a snowy owl Voice: Maurice LaMarche Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n9NKWYnsGA&feature=related (357, 441) Bio: Specter had always been bitter, a feeling that was not helped when a yearling grizzly killed his parents and crippled his sister Tupatitsiyok. Fortunately, Somnio's sire and dame chased the yearling off. The two's owners took the owls back and hand-raised them. Unlike his sister, Specter left as soon as he could and left to roam alone. Some females have shown interest in him, include one he likes, but he fears nesting. Needless to say, he wasn't pleased when Tupatitsiyok left and then returned with chicks. Still, he tries to keep an eye on his niece and nephew. Deep down, Specter fears for them; but it's hard for to care for anyone but himself. Personality: Kojak and Nyctea’s uncle, the bitter Specter feels like he’s quite the victim, ever since he was a young when a hungry yearling grizzly killed his parents and wounded the sister so that they had to be raised by humans. He had always been quiet and withdrawn, but the incident made him even more bitter. He is capable of love, but would rather not admit. Gruff, nervous though he tries to hide it and stand-offish, he trusts no one but the owls. Unlike these two, he would rather use neglect to deal with such things and is rather passive aggressive. Specter delights delight in teasing like his nephew, but unlike Kojak, never cares if hurts the others. Despite this, when he cares, he care very deeply. Specter fears bears. Description: Gaunt snowy owl, with ice-white white and a few black bars along the edge of the primaries and secondaries, and tail feathers. Mustard-yellow eyes. Specter is the same size as Kojak, but weighs less. Sire: Krernertok "black" in Inuit Dame: Koksortok "yellow" in Inuit Brother: Aupayartok “brown” in Inuit (Boron) Sister: Tupatitsiyok Trivia: Specter was originally an unrelated owl from the role-play "All Alone" that Kojak and Nyctea get to help them get Kirchy to the Salmon Run. Specter eventually joins up with Vetus to go after Kia's character. I decided to make Specter their uncle to explain why he stays with the two. The owl's back-story had always included a grizzly attack, although originally it was his siblings that were killed.

Name: Roanoke Age: Ten years old Gender: Male Species: Moose Scientific name: Alces alcesName Origin: From the lost colony of Virginia Voice: Vincent Price Voice sample: www.youtube.com/user/FanOfDisneyVillains#p/c/95D46EA631977427/10/10OYe0xQKmg(09, 59) Bio: Roanoke had mated with the most beautiful doe in the world, Dulcis, but he had to leave for many years, leaving more food for his family, back when Tuke was just a baby and Rutt just conceived. Years later, Roanoke returned to Brother Bear land, expecting to meet sons exactly like him. Boy, was he wrong!! Disgruntled and shocked, Roanoke reluctantly agrees to follow his sons; although he spends long journeys alone, trying to find Dulcis. Personality: Arrogant and with an "I'm-better-than-you" attitude, Roanoke couldn't be any more different than his gentle, sweet mate Dulcis or his friendly offspring Rutt and Tuke. Only his aloofness keeps him from being obnoxious. Deep down (we're talking REALLY deep) inside of Roanoke exists a warm, loving nature that drew Dulcis to him and that he passed on to Rutt and Tuke. Description: Like his famous sons, Roanoke's coat is reddish, although much darker than theirs. His crest, bell (dewlap) and shoulders are a brilliant fire-red, his great palm-like antlers are larger than most moose’s', spreading seven feet from tip-to-tip, his legs are snow-white, and his fiery eyes are dark. Roanoke is ten and half feet long and eight feet at the shoulder. Shaggy mane down spine and throat. Sire: Worcester (Worcester is a county in Massachusetts) Dame: Keokee (Keokee is a city in Virginia) Mate: Dulcis ("sweet" in Latin) Offspring: Rutt and Tuke Trivia: I've missed playing this guy. My version of Rutt and Tuke's father, he's not nearly as nice as his sons. I loved how Epesi handled the moose and their reaction to him. It's a pity that role-play stopped. Pyronondo, his wyvern enemy, was originally from my last finished and unpublished Balto fic. Notes: Inspired by Rutt and Tuke, of course.

Name: Specus Age: Fourteen years old Gender: Male Species: Cave bear Scientific name: Ursus spelaeusName Origin: Latin for "cave" Voice: Tim McGraw Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSE8NJHn7ssBio: Specus's ancestors lived near what is now the Caspian Sea. When their smaller cousins, the Brown Bears, started to expand and compete for territory, Specus's line left in disgust, traveling eastward toward the Bering Land Bridge. By the time Specus had been born, they had reached it; however, they had also decided to settle were they were. When Specus was young, his parents spoiled him because of his coat (Specus was born with an orca-pattern coat, unusual for few piebald cave bears are symmetrical) and because he was their youngest cub. The young cave bear never quite got over that, despite his parents’ later attempts to teach him better. Hyper when younger, Specus was crushed when his bad people skills lost him a mate. It wasn’t until he passed adolescence that he finally listened to his parents and became easier to deal with. The cave bear never quite forgot it though. Sulky, Specus went across the Bering Land Bridge. Now an older male, he wanders Alaska; lately, his travels have brought him to land of Brother Bear... Personality: Specus is somewhat selfish, but he is quite gentle. The cave bear acts as though he wants nothing to do with cubs, but in truth despite the gruff exterior, his is quite a sunny disposition and would give his life to protect any cub. Specus can be caring, but he fears being alone, despite his attempts to distance himself from everything. But the more he cares, the more he acts like a jerk. Description: Specus's muzzle is medium-length and broad, with the high forehead that marks his kind. His relatively small, squarish ears rise to a point at the very end. The fur on his forehead flows into his mane. Like a polar bear, his hips are wider than his shoulders; his forelimbs are slighter long than the hind ones. His main coloring is a dull black, with white lower jaw, underside, ear tips, eye patch and a patch behind his eye. White also splashes slightly down the inside of his forelegs, runs along his back legs to the toes, and makers a patched between his shoulder blades. A crescent-shaped patch of pale gray is on the middle of his back and another forms a bird-shaped mark on the bottom of his throat. His claws are dull yellow, his eyes are topaz and his mottled pads are black and pink. Sire: Sturnus (“starling” in Latin) praeustus (“frost” in Latin) Dame: Merula (“blackbird” in Latin) Trivia: I finally decided to add a bear to the role-play; but rather than a grizzly or black, I decided to add a cave bear. I designed Specus before actually researching Cave Bears in depth ...thus the high forehead had to be added in later and he doesn't quite match the real skeletons. Also, I hadn't thought to check if they were in North America or not (the book I had read about them in was published in England), hence Specus's migrating past to explain what the heck he was doing in North America. ^^' Notes: Inspired by Sunnybank Goldsmith. Cave Bears= huge European beasts. They also tend to be monogamists. The cave bears have been on the retreat from competition with their smaller cousins, the brown bears. They’re powerful and know it, but they also are pretty wise. Brindle is dominant, while piebald is recessive. Eyes are topaz, with mottled paw pads. They feed on larger prey, including mammoth calves. Males tend to be gentle to their own cubs, but savage towards other and will tolerate only their own mates on their land. Females often stay in regions around their parents, while males roam.

Name: Turquoise Age: Five years old Gender: Male Species: Troodon Scientific name: Troodon formosusName Origin: From the stone turquoise. Voice: Kevin Conroy Voice sample: dcbeyond.kidswb.com/video/Batman-The-Animated-Series/Jokers-Favor/3aad0f06-75ea-404c-9869-b956325794ee (1642, 1958) Bio: The son of the alphas, Turquoise was cocky and obnoxious as a pup. He was fond of bullying Ravenheart until the furless Troodon left. Not long after, Turquoise matured- well, for the most part- beyond his earlier characteristics and served as a mentor to two young Velociraptors until Fire attacked, nearly killing him. Tree-Star healed him, though his fur grew back black in some areas. Now he lives with the Alimon pack, agonizing over his past crimes against Ravenheart and seeking to mentor once more. Personality: Turquoise is good-hearted and will give his life for his friends. But he's also ill-tempered and very arrogant, selfish and at times nasty. Still, he means will and tries to help others. Description: Larger and a bit more robust than his descendant, EbonyPatriot, Turquoise's pelt is thicker and slightly harsher. His coloring is a handsome melted silver, blended with blue mist into a single hue. Gold masks his muzzle and boots his paws. His eyes are silver frosted with emerald. Feathering stretches from his limbs and tail. Sire: Feldspar (a mineral) Dame: Topaz (cinnabar) (both minerals) Mate: Tetra Trivia: Turquoise's history is actually EbonyPatriot's- Turquoise was what I called my original character when he was still blue-and-white, before I renamed him Patriot. Ken'ichi requested I write a fic based on his Land Before Time fic, "A Sharptooth's Heart." I decided to write about Zill and Bull, the two villainous velociraptors. I also decided to add a troodon and so brought back Turquoise. Turquoise, by the way, is EbonyPatriot's ancestor; he eventually succeeds in getting a mate, Tetra. I added him here for Night Bear's "Prehistory" role-play. Notes: Inspired by Breehy-hinny-briny-hoohy-hah (Bree). Thinner builds generally than their descendants. Thick, harsher texture fur in place of feathers. Troodons lived in packs, although more than the dominants could breed. Young are introduced to their pack when old enough. Like birds, gender is not XX for female and XY for male; but ZW for female and ZZ for male. Black and silver are both epistatic colors carried on the Z chromosomes and are codominant. A female will remain either black or silver, while a male can express both at the same time; usually however, in both cases the blue-gray modifier changes the fur color to blue-gray instead. Recessive troodons are white; blue-gray is an independent modifier and can go with either of the genes (patches of the base color sometimes show up in the areas of thinner fur). Red-brown is dominant, gold is heterozygous. White marks can occur on the face, brow, toes, throat, chest and tail-tip. Females have three black or white bands across their backs, males do not. Females are also slightly smaller with slightly smaller fangs. Eye color can be blue or gold. A close-knit pack is needed to catch the herbivores while avoiding being caught by larger carnivores themselves, thus troodons prefer to settle their difference while young. Fights however, can be common using their claws (usually when fighting for mates will males use their terrible teeth against each other, or against a stranger) and can leave damaging wounds. Claws are used to settling more important matters than body language, and teeth are the most terrible and serious weapons. Leadership is often family-based.

Name: Stone Age: Eight years old Gender: Male Species: Alimon Scientific name: Collum longusName Origin: Night Bear named him; was suggested along with Claw. Voice: Terrence Mann Voice sample: disney.go.com/music/various-artists/beauty-the-beast-on-broadway (track 11, 13, 19) Bio: Stone's friendly nature bellies his miserable past. Stone, along with his nest-mates Midnight and Ezma, found their mother dead when the three were still cubbies. Stone eventually avenged his mother's death and became leader. While she avoided him after his mother's death, fearing she would make things worse, Tree-Star reunited with him and the two became mates. When Stone was only three years old, he saved the young Turquoise from a carnotaurus; the two have been friends ever since and indeed, Stone sees Turquoise as his own cubbie. The leader of the Alimon pack known as the Rock Rangers, Stone and his followers are the ones in charge of guarding the weaker animals in the Valley. Stone has led his pack as well as he can, though his friendship with Turquoise brought about Fire’s revolt. Personality: Easy-going, Stone has a tendency to give bad puns. However, he can be harsh and has a hard time forgiving. He tends to forget his power; making him dangerous to be with at times. Stone acts before he thinks. Still, this is a friendly, gentle Alimon. Description: A regular-size Alimon, Stone is a solid silver, with cloud-colored paws up to his wrists and even length on his hind legs. His claws are blood-colored and his eyes are pure gold. Long, shaggy feathers stretch from his neck. Sire: Blizzard (Night Bear’s character) Dame: Ruby-Red (Night Bear’s character) Brother: Midnight (Night Bear’s character) Sister: Ezma (Night Bear’s character) Mate: Tree-Star Offspring: Emerald (Night Bear’s character) Trivia: Stone's name and friendly nature were given to him in a chat by Night Bear; later she gave his back-story as well. I had decided to add some Alimons (Night Bear's fictional dinosaur species) to my fic based on Ken'ichi "A Sharptooth's Heart." I expanded his personality and design. (If I recall, it was also Night Bear's idea that he be friends with Turquoise). I like Stone- he's a genuinely nice guy and fun to play. Stone was designed just as Night Bear first changed the Alimon's designs; so I asked if Stone could be a representive of the old design. The Rock Rangers Stone leads were both my idea and name- it always bothered me when I was a kid why the herbivores in Land Before Time could leave and come at will but the predators couldn't.

Name: Tree-Star Age: Eight years old Gender: Female Species: Alimon Scientific name: Collum longusName Origin: From the tree-stars in the film Land Before Time. Voice: Kath Soucie Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=trS2TaXbt5Q&feature=related (249, 303) Bio: Tree-Star had a quiet life with her best friend Stone until Stone's mother was killed. For a time she avoided him, afraid of saying the wrong thing and hurting her friend more. The two reunited and eventually became mates. They argue from time to time, but are in love with each other. During an attack, Tree-Star was crippled. Knowing that she could no longer produce young, she tearfully offered to release Stone from his vows so that he could pick a mate that could bear him offspring. But Stone loved Tree-Star too much and vowed to stay with her. To protect their young, the two left together, roaming the land. Personality: Gentle and timid, Tree-Star in capable of great thought. However, she's naïve and thinks that others are not evil, just misguided and not their fault. Tree-Star is very close to her mate Stone, although she spoils their son Emerald. Description: The same size as her mate, Tree-Star is a bright leaf-green, with blue-green jagged streaks. Between the streaks are spots of the same color of the former. Her eyes are brown, and her claws are turquoise. Her downy mane is soft and medium length. Sire: Shooting-Star Dame: Gingko Mate: Stone Offspring: Emerald (Night Bear’s character) Sister: StarLeaf (Night Bear’s character) Trivia: Stone's gentle mate, introduced along with Stone. I wanted to keep the same pattern of names as Stone. Night Bear created Tree-Star's sister StarLeaf. I know some race-horses are named after their parents, so I thought that I would make Tree-Star's parents a combination of their daughters' names. (No, I haven't gotten around to designing them yet).

Name: Black Ember Age: Eight years old Gender: Female Species: Alimon Scientific name: Collum longusName Origin: From her brother's name; wanted it to fit in with Stone's name. Voice: Grey Delise Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lppUmLTCZTM (439) Bio: Unlike Donovan, Black Ember was far too fierce to suffer from Fire's attacks when they were cubbies. Boring of being with the others in the Rock Rangers, she left to be a loner. Now she roams alone, seeking to avoid all others. Personality: Though she is bad-tempered, unless provoked she manages to control herself; thus deliberately giving the impression that she is harmless. She simply doesn’t care for any other creature but herself, hence her loner status. Description: A Dwarf Alimon, Black Ember is much smaller than most of the others. Her main coloring is new-moon black, with a blood-red mane, tail-tip and claws. Her forehead is navy-blue; above each eye is a dot-less exclamation point of the same color. Navy-blue also stripes her chest, rings her tail, colors her right fore and left hind toes, and covers her left fore and right hind from claw to elbow/ankle. Finally, a jagged tornado-shaped navy-blue marks her from shoulders to hips. Her eyes are yellow. Her downy mane is medium length and silky. Sire: Charcoal (Night Bear’s character) Dame: Blaze (Night Bear’s character) Brothers: Fire, Donovan (Ken'ichi's character) Trivia: Fire's sister. Since Alimons can be dwarf, Mega, or standard and Donovan and Fire already filled those two, I decided to make her a dwarf.

Name: Fire Age: Eight years old Gender: Male Species: Alimon Scientific name: Collum longusName Origin: Wanted it to fit in with Stone's name. Voice: Ken Page Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5iZE6-a9jU (04, 23) Bio: Fire was always fierce and tried to kill his siblings Donovan and Black Ember. The aggression was continued into adulthood. Stone finally banished him after Fire set the Great Valley on fire. Furious, Fire formed a rival pack. Some time after his banishment, Fire attacked and nearly killed Turquoise, Zill and Bull, only to be attacked by Stone. Personality: Ill-tempered and sulky, Fire quickly looses his temper. This Alimon can't stand to be ignored and loves causing harm. Still, Fire thinks of himself as a nice guy and that they deserve it. Fire longs to be in charge to tell others what to do. Description: A mega Alimon, Fire is huge. Fire's muzzle is blunt and squared-off, with a small dip in-between the tip and the face; his neck and tail are long, and his torso and limbs are powerful. Fire's coloring is pitch-black, with fire-orange fat streaks all over his body and yellow eyes; claws are blood-colored. Long, ragged feathers strength out from his neck. Sire: Charcoal (Night Bear’s character) Dame: Blaze (Night Bear’s character) Mate: Smoke (Night Bear’s character) Brother: Donovan (Ken'ichi's character) Sister: Black Ember Offspring: Rorra (Night Bear’s character), Zebulon (Ken'ichi's character) Trivia: My evil Alimon, a rival for Stone. I never designed him past his head and neck; Night Bear gave the rest. I think I wanted Fire to fight with Turquoise. Since then, Night Bear's given him a mate, pack and sons. Not bad for what was just supposed to take the place of the carnotaurus I had originally planned to damage Turquoise and remove him from Zill and Bull.

Name: Somnio (Sinnektomawok) Age: Twenty-one months old Gender: Male Species: Sire was a Malamute; maternal grandmother was a Canadian Eskimo dog, maternal grandfather was a Seppala Siberian husky Scientific name: Canis lupus familarisName Origin: From Latin and Inuit for "dream" Voice: Corey Burton Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeVJEWluzUA (narrator) Bio: Somnio's is in training to be a sled-dog. Currently, he helps guard the village. Somnio's sire, Issorartuyok, was the village's strongest malamute, just as Issorartuyok's ancestors had been for years; Somnio's dame Uiritsaktak, the gentle protector of children; Somino's maternal grandmother, Tuwawi ("quick" in Inuit), was incredibly fast; his maternal grandsire Umiartortok ("travel by boat" in Inuit) was surefooted even in the worst blizzard. Somnio, well, Somnio spends most of his time barking at the baskets. Somnio's father is worried about his son, although he is assured by his mate that this will soon pass. Somnio, as a puppy, once scared off a cave lion, hence his parents renamed him like the cats. Unfortunately, Somnio never outgrew his puppy habits and still loves attention more than anything. Personality: Somnio's a playful pup, only acting fierce when he must. Somnio likes barking and showing off. The husky desperately, deep down, wants to please his parents; when he's not busy getting into mischief, that is. Description: Dusty coat, like ash mixed with clay. Reddish patches on eyebrows, legs, and tail tip. White blaze on face, white neck and paws. Eyes are ice-blue. Shaggy fur, seems far too long for his gigantic, short body. Huge paws, bushy tail that curves over his back. Broad muzzle, black-tipped ears. The left ear flops over and is missing the tip. Sire: Issorartuyok ("leader dog" in Inuit) Dame: Uiritsaktak ("playful" in Inuit) Trivia: A sled-dog husky I created for "All Alone." Poor poor Somnio- I created him on June 14, 2005. But unlike all of my other characters from that role-play (Vetus, Sollew, Kojak, Nyctea and Specter), Somnio never left and indeed, I rather forgot him. But I think I'll enter him at some time; at least, his parents now have a role to play in Specter's back-story. Since Siberian huskies were brought over later, I changed his breed from pure Siberian to mix of different Native breeds as well as Seppala Siberian Husky. Breeding wise, he's based on Buff from Albert Payson Terhune's book of the same name. Notes: Inspired by Buff, particularly for the breeding and Terhune's Hero.

Name: Qoheleth Age: Twenty-one years old Gender: Male Species: White-tailed deer Scientific name: Odocoileus virginianusName Origin: The Hebrew name for the Book of Ecclesiastes, means 'teacher'. Voice: James Earl Jones Voice sample: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUSOjCpqJmA&feature=related (30) Bio: Considered by many White-Tails to be the greatest buck the world has ever known, Qoheleth came up with the idea that (to prevent in-breeding), the deer of the Novus Forest should take just one mate and be faithful to each other. He also took a more active role in leading the deer, making him the first Prince of the Forest. After losing his mate Sarai and letting his son Nehemiah take his place, Qoheleth left his home in what will be Maine and traveled far and wide, including Brother Bear Land. Personality: A wise and noble buck, even the great Qoheleth has flaws. A seemingly laid-back disposition masks the fiery temper and aggression of this defensive, sensitive distant buck. Qoheleth has a hard time helping, often preferring to be aloof. Still, he’s fond of sharing his wisdom. Description: Qoheleth's coat is a blend of gold and silver and earth, with white circling his eyes, behind his black nose, over his chin and throat, his underside, beneath his tail and splashing down the insides of his legs. His grayed head is crowned with huge, many-tined antlers, earning him the title 'stag.'. Silver marks ear tips. His liquid eyes are hazel; and thick elk-like mane covers his neck. Sire: Habakkuk Dame: Yáhmûr-áyyãlah Yáhmûr (deer in Arabic) Ayyãlah (doe in Hebrew)- Mate: Sarai Offspring: Nehemiah (son) Trivia: Bambi's ancestor, mentioned in my Bambi fanfic, "Madness of Prince Ronno." I've always loved white-tails, so I wanted to play him. So far he only briefly appeared to contrast with Roanoke in the role-play "In the Storm There's a Place That's Soft and Still" Notes: White-tailed deer are not found in Alaska; Qoheleth traveled here from Maine.

With few options, the two swiftly joined Tazer's pack with Ferrum. Personality: Savage Belladonna is not be trusted and in fact, is more cowardly than her brother. She resents this and takes it on Balatro. Description: Beige than caramel, bistre top of head. Slate brown muzzle and eyes, neck, and saddle. Earth yellow from ribs where upper forelegs starts across ribs. Black limbs and nape. Very fluffy, like all wolverines, has a heavy build large head small round ears and massive limbs.
