OOC: Oops! My bad for the lyrics; ah well. ;D Before I forget again, Epesi, would you prefer Nita find Roanoke and co. before they Kenai and the gang; or after? ^^" BIC: Vetus snarls softly as Sollew returns to her sire's foreleg's, ears back. Roanoke snorts. "Settle down, Roanoke," says Tyonek gruffly. The stag sighs and says: "Full grown. Their names are Rutt and Tuke." Tyonek slows his stride and lets Roanoke go ahead. "It's their mother Roanoke's looking for; but she's in Manitoba," he says softly to the three before asking loudly. "When are you heading to Manitoba?" "Once I drop you off, I'm heading south," replies Roanoke. --- The caribou start back for the herd. "My mate is called Tyonek," says Minto. "The cave lion is Vetus and the sabretooth is Savik," calls Tuque. "The lynx is a cub; Vetus is her adopted sire," says Kalone. "You'll have to go through Vetus's territory, so be careful." "And the Moose is Roanoke," adds Kemano, still eager to show off. "Roanoke's grumpy."

OOC: No worries about the lyrics; I thought the fact that they were a little out of order made the scene funnier. ;D I didn't mean to nitpick.
Before, unless you think it would drag things out too long. ^^; It's been fun having her run into other characters before finally reuniting with Kenai, and I'm interested to see how Vetus and company will react to her.
Nita pauses to listen to the parting words of the caribou, embarrassed to realize that she never thought to ask any of their names in her hurry to find Kenai. Of course, until today, she never realized they had names. She commits the ones she's just learned to memory: Tyonek, Vetus, Savik, and Roanoke.
"Got it," she calls to them before she turns again to leave. "Thanks again!"
She has to backtrack a bit to find the feline tracks she passed earlier. They're heading right into the storm, she notes with displeasure; she had hoped to avoid the rain, but it probably would have caught up with her eventually. She pulls up her hood before following the tracks into the gloom.
---
Savik is surprised, both at the age of Roanoke's children and the fact that he has so little to say about them. That's enough to make her a little curious, but from his terse answer, she suspects further questions on the subject would be unwelcome. She moves on instead to the next question that sparks her curiosity.
"If you don't mind my asking, what were you doing here when you know your mate is in this Manitoba place?"

Ken'ichi mumbled under his breath as he just resisted the urge to maim everything within the radius of twenty feet as the group joined Kamali in his little sing-along. The fact that Koda leaned to him and Kenai just laughing at his expense didn't help at all.
So tell 'em all I'm on my way! New friends and new places to see~!" And Kamali went on singing, much to Ken'ichi's irritation.
"And to sleep under the stars and could ask for more? With the moon keeping watch over me~!"
"Oh you'll sleep under the stars, all right..." Ken'ichi threatens him under his breath. Trying to squirm his way out of the sing-along he tries to break into the group's sing-along to ask. 'Anything to get out of this headache...!'
"So, how far do we have to go to get to this Ridge?" He wanted to know, just so he can prepare for a sing-along marathon if there's still a long road ahead of them.

Koda frowns at the interruption, and the fact that clearly his message to Ken'ichi didn't quite get through. Maybe he was too subtle.
"Well, like I said, we should be there by sundown. Probably. Which should be, uh..." he looks at the ground, frowns again, then squints up at the clouds. His mother taught him how to tell the time by the shadows on the ground, but it doesn't work so well when it's overcast like this. "In a while."
"In other words," Kenai translates, rolling his eyes, "we keep walking until it's too dark to see, and then hope we've stumbled onto Crowberry Ridge by then. We've still got several hours to go," he adds to Ken'ichi, guessing his real reason for asking.
"So it's lucky you have us to make the time go by faster, huh? So, where were we, guys?" Koda looks to the other two singers to continue.
Kenai casts an uneasy glance at Ken'ichi.
"Err, maybe we could do something else to pass the time," he suggests quietly.

OOC: Aww I didn't think you were nitpicking, Epesi. ^^" Heh, I did think it was a bit funnier that way. Heh, I actually did have an idea for Vetus's response to Nita, so I was hoping you wouldn't mind (I was afraid you were thinking it was taking too long ). BIC: Roanoke slows his stride. "It's a long story, Sabre-tooth. I had originally left to leave more food for my mate and fawns. While I was away, my mate was attacked by a wyvern (a winged snake with two legs) from the Bering land bridge. I got that wyvern to come after me, and have been on the run ever since. I was able to go over the land bridge and after a few years, was able to escape him. By that time, years had passed and my fawns had been able to fend for themselves. So I returned last autumn and found my fawns. We fought the wyvern and...went our own ways. Once the winter was over, I finally found out from Tyonek that my mate had gone south to Manitoba. So now I'm on my way back." "Minto and Roanoke's mate were friends from the time they were fawns," explains Tyonek. "We all grew up together. The wyvern went after Roanoke and left my herd alone as well." "Wow," says Sollew softly. "Does this wyvern want to eat you?" "What do you think, cub?" snaps Roanoke. "Do you think he wants to give me barley and amberweed on malted hops?!" Vetus snarls, ears back. "Watch it! Watch it, don't speak to my cub that way." ---- EbonyPatriot looks at Ken'ichi, lips pulled back at the cub's grumpiness. "Oh come on Ken'ichi, it's fun. But if you like, Kenai, we can play a different game. I spy, anyone?"

OOC: Sorry this took so long! I had a busy week at school, followed by a busier weekend. After all of the strange creatures she has encountered in the past several months, Savik is hardly surprised anymore to learn of another one. She has a hard time visualizing the wyvern, however, having never ventured far enough south to see a snake for herself; she's only heard secondhand descriptions of them. Her mental image ends up looking something like a Thunderbird with the body of a worm and the head and scales of a salmon, which manages to be ridiculous and still a little frightening at the same time. Savik snarls, too, when Roanoke lashes out at Sollew; he can say what he likes about Koda, or any of the pack's other tag-along kids, but the lynx is off limits. She reins in her anger only because they need the moose, for now. "It was a fair question, Roanoke," she growls. "The beast could have had some other reason to want you dead." I can't imagine what that might be. "In fact, there must be some other reason -- why would he want to eat you so badly that he would chase you so far, for so long? Why wouldn't he go after easier prey? He'd have to, anyway, to stay alive while he chased you..." At this point, she's more pondering aloud than talking to Roanoke. Her thoughts are soon interrupted by a sound from not too far behind them, a muffled snap followed by a hasty rustling. Savik automatically takes a defensive position, half-turned toward the sound and legs coiled to spring. "Get behind us, Sollew," she hisses, scanning the trees with narrowed eyes. Whatever made that noise must have hidden; she can't see it, can't hear it moving anymore -- but she can smell it, faintly. It takes a few moments to single out and identify, hidden under so many other scents, and it's one she's only encountered a few times before; but once she recognizes it, she crouches down lower, fighting a powerful urge to flee. And then a voice calls out from behind the trees, first startling and then confusing Savik. She smells a human, but she hears an animal. What is this? She spares a very brief glance at the others. --- Nita clings to the trunk of the tree she's standing behind, her heart threatening to beat its way out of her chest. She had hoped to get close enough to call to them without revealing herself, so they could have a proper introduction without anyone trying to kill anyone else. Now that her cover is blown, it may be harder to avoid that, so she wastes no time in getting to the point. "H-hello. My name is Nita. Tyonek, your family sent me -- they told me your names -- because I'm looking for my friend Kenai, and your son said that you were looking for him, too, so...um..." She peeks around the tree trunk, so that she can see them and they can see her. She's curious to see their reactions -- and to make sure they aren't going to come after her. Her eyes widen a little as she gets a better look at them -- oh, gosh, they're big. As for their reactions -- well, it's hard to tell just yet. The sabertooth is staring at her, eyes wide and mouth slightly slack, much as she would probably have looked if a cat strolled into her village and started talking. It would almost be comical, but it's hard to laugh at a set of giant fangs. She raises a hand to wave at them, trying uncertainly to smile.

OOC: Geez! So sorry for this late post. With a suppressed grumble Ken'ichi closed his eyes and lowered his head as he kept up the pace. Kamali frowned. He didn't used to be like this. His experiences have changed him for the worst. Now he's barely unapproachable, rarely smiles, if ever. "Great, until night fall," he muttered to himself, completely ignoring EP's suggestion of what to do next. "Come on, bro, cheer up," Kamali urged him. "You used to love I Spy." " Used to, that's the keyword," Ken'ichi replied with as he opened his eyes, spotting his reflection in a passing puddle underneath his paws. "Right right..." Kamali sighed. "All right, fine," Ken'ichi suddenly threw his head up, a challenging look on his face. "I spy something...Red." "Red?" Kamali's blinked. "Red...?" he muttered as he looked his surroundings. Either he's blind or he doesn't see anything red around here. 'Because I saw my eyes in my reflection over in that puddle we just passed, so technically I'm not cheating. Should keep them busy for a while trying to find something red.' Ken'ichi couldn't help but smirk inside.

OOC: Ack I've even later. Sorry about that guys. BIC: Roanoke shiver slightly at beasts' growls. "Pyronondo wanted to get any American Moose (despite our relations to the Asian Elk) to feed on, to see if we could be used to attract a mate," he explains sulkily (he doesn’t like showing that he was afraid of these beasts). The Moose stops with a snort as he scents the human. Roanoke stomps a hoof at scent of the human and his ears flatten. The stag never cared for humans, even if they know how to speak. Tyonek scents with ears pricked; he had befriended humans before. “Minto and Tuque, you mean?” Sollew whimpers and runs to Vetus, only to, as Vetus moves forward, race to Savik's forelegs. For Vetus stalks closely, ears back and eyes staring. Muscles twitching, he stalks behind her; and springs, massive paws and killer claws extended. Tyonek snorts and shoots his head forward, antlers catching Vetus's thickly furred shoulders and shoving him down. (The stag has acted instinctivly, responding to Vetus as he had had to fight Zarembo and Keno for Minto). Roanoke, to his credit, has sprang as well and is using his huge antlers to try and pin the Cave Lion without hurting him. "Help us, Savik!" roars Tyonek. Vetus screams in fury once he recovers from the surprise and lashes his forelegs out, trying to catch Nita's legs. ---- EbonyPatriot twists his head to one side. At the word red, the Troodon's mind jumps to the red of a redwing blackbird. "I don't see anything red either." ---- Specus the Cave Bear stumbles, topaz eyes nearly shut to stop his headache. The bear’s soaked piebald fur isn’t cooling his fevered body. Specus paws at his muzzle and eyes, trying the stop the pain where the fox had bitten him. The Cave Bear suddenly stops snapping and rushes to a pool of water, desperately lapping. “Raar!” he screeches as his throat muscles convulse at all the water he had swallowed and the rain dilutes the foam in his mouth. Shivering, the Bear steps back, torn between wanting to fix his sore throat and the terror at the water. “I should have known,” he rasps. “I should have left the fox alone. But a European red fox! I thought I was the only one…” Specus trembles. “I will be soon….” Specus staggers to a stop. The topaz eyes reluctantly open to see two cubs, both black and white like him, a dark brown cub, a tawny brown adult and a black and white dinosaur. The Cave Bear’s heart leaps: Cave Bear cubs? With a low growl, Specus’s ears flatten and foaming jaws open. The Cave Bear is too feverish to care. Stalking forward, Specus roars. “Move out of my path!” The Troodon jumps, fur bristling and jaws snapping. Once Specus had a gentle voice, his accent long since blurred smooth. But now, his voice is harsh and different. “Now!” So furious is Specus that. right now, he doesn’t care if he infects these strangers.
