"Oof!"
Koda had stopped tickling me and jumped off my stomach heavily. I gasped for breath from all the tickling that Koda and Kirchy had done to me. I continued to lie on my back, exhausted.
"You...*Pant, pant*...you guys got me..." I said, rustling the giggling Koda's headfur.

I rolled of Kenai, laughing. "That was fun!" I exclaimed.

Koda was on his back laughing at me, and all I could do was roll my eyes. Then he stopped laughing abruptly, sniffing the air.
"Kenai! I smell hunters!" He said, hopping on my back and attempting to get Kirchy to get on with him.

My ears perked up in alarm. Hunters?! I followed Koda's lead and jumped on Kenai's back. I flattened my ears and looked around wildly.

I barely noticed the weight on my back as I ran through the forest, trying to put as much distance between myself and the hunters as possible. Kirchy and Koda were holding on for dear life, the ride not being the smoothest they've ever had.
Then I spotted them. Not one hunter, but several! There was a whole pack, as Koda would say. I skidded to a halt unsure of what to do.
"Kenai...I'm scared..." Koda whimpered into my mane.

I looked around nervously. "We can't outrun them..." I said in distress. My mind began to frantically think of a solution. What were were supposed to do? I could only think of one solution. "We've got to find some place to hide!"

Hide?! Where were they going to hide? There was really only one solution...
"You guys get out of here!" Kenai yelled, rearing up on his hindlegs, forcing the cubs off his back.
"What? No!" Koda protested in disbelief. "I lost my mom already. I'm not going to lose my brother too!"
But Koda didn't have another say as Kenai picked him up by the scruff of the neck and tossed him back, away from the hunters. He did the same to Kirchy.
"GO!"
Koda hesitated, a tear in his eye.
[switched to 3rd person, sorry]

[It's ok. ] I whined as I got thrown back. I hesitated before poking Koda with my claw. "Let's get to those bushes!" I whispered urgently. I turned to my left and started crawling. I looked back and beckoned for Koda to follow me.

Koda tore his gaze away from Kenai's and ran into the bushes where Kirchy was beckoning.
Kenai had rushed head long into the hunters, growling and snarling, hoping to scare them away. It had no effect however; a viscous blow to his head knocked him unconscious and they dragged him away.
"Kenai..."

I gasped as I watched the hunters take away Kenai. I looked at Koda with a worried glanced. "We have to do something!" I exclaimed. "We need to get help!"

Koda didn't hear Kirchy though. As the unconscious Kenai disappeared from view, Koda buried his head in his paws, his back shaking with silent sobs.
"He's gone..."

I sighed as I looked at Koda. He must be taking this pretty hard. I knew how he felt. I padded up to Koda and sat beside him. "It's going to be ok," I said softly. "We'll get him back."

Koda sniffed and rubbed his eye. "He said he would never leave me. We're brothers..." This brought on another barrage of tears, and he buried his nose into Kirchy's shoulder until he stopped crying. About a minute later he managed to gain control of himself again.
"How are we going to get him back?" He asked Kirchy.

"I don't know," I said softly. I glanced down. "Maybe there's another bear around here who can help." I sighed.

"Are they gone?" A voice whispered from behind the Koda and Kirchy.
"Wha-?" Koda said, turning around in surprise. A bear cub about the same size as Koda crawled out from the brush. As he emerged, Koda could see that he had a light brown stripe down his right forearm, and another stripe across his left eye.
"Are the hunters gone?" He said a little more confidently, now that he could see for himself that they were.
