Kenai tensed as heard Tug say he knew why he couldn't fish. He actually knew? But how?
"It's pretty obivious Kenai... you're an in-land bear."
"Oh. That. Ya." Caught completely off-guard at this statement, Kenai cleared his throat and searched for something to say.
"So...uhh...about those berries?" Kenai gestured toward the direction he had been heading in, hoping Tug would follow.
Nita said that I should set things straight with them...
He now wished that Tug had already known...It would have made things much easier.

Tug smiled at Kenai and said "Are sure you don't want to give fishing another try? It looks like Koda taught you how to do it and only need some experience." Tug smiled and boosted "You'll be catching fish every time after a while."

Torn between ruining a relationship by revealing his humanity or learning how to fish, Kenai stalled in his decision.
Maybe Nita was wrong...Maybe I don't need to tell them. I could just stick with being an "in-land bear", like Tug said.
He got back up, stretching his hindlegs. "Ok Tug. Let's go get some fishing experience." He said, taking the easy way out.

Nita tries to loosen up, breathing deeply as Denaik said. She watches him, nodding. "I see..."
Imitating his posture, this time gripping with her claws, she tries again. She doesn't have to watch as long this time before another fish happens by, and she lunges forward. Once again she feels the fear of falling headfirst, but she grips tight and doesn't stop this time, focusing on her target.
She snaps her jaws in the water, but just misses the salmon; this time, though, she doesn't fall. She straigtens up and wipes her dripping muzzle, glancing at Denaik. She's feeling a little more cheerful now. "Better, right?"
As Nita turns back to watch the water for another chance, Footpad loses interest and wanders off to a shallower spot, hoping to find fish within his size range.

Tug lead the way back to the river with Kenai in-tow and was met by the gaze of the others. Tug knew he might have to tell Hoonah about Kenai.

"Ya, that's much better! I think your getting the hang of it. Try again. Don't be afraid of the water, it's not going to hurt you." He said giving her a wink.
After a few seconds, there was a rustling in the bushes as Tug and Kenai emerged.
"How was that berry gathering Kenai?" Denaik asked, trying to keep the smile off his face.
Kenai just shrugged, indicating he didn't want to talk about it.
"No berries, then?" Denaik said with one eyebrow raised, ignoring Kenai's indication.
"Tug was just about to help me with my fishing, actually." Kenai mumbled, idly tracing the dirt with his claw.
"Oh." Was all Denaik said, backing off the subject and turning to watch Nita practice her fishing.

Footpad, not having any luck in the shallow water, perks up when Kenai and Tug return. No berries, he notes with disappointment, but it's not a total loss -- it looks like Kenai's going to fish again.
Nita notices their arrival, but doesn't catch much of their conversation, her full attention on the water. Catching sight of another fish, she lunges again -- and this time she catches something smooth in her jaws. She struggles to keep her grip, both on the bank and her squirming catch, while pulling herself back up. As she raises her head, the fish wriggles free and falls toward the water; Nita shoots both front paws out to catch it -- and succeeds, but at the loss of her balance. She falls in, disappearing with a splash.
After a moment she resurfaces, wide-eyed and shaken, with a salmon in her jaws.
Footpad stares for a few seconds, stunned -- and then starts laughing again.

Denaik watches Nita's spectacle with amazement. As she resurfaced in the water, he rushes forward to help her up.
"That was really good! Didn't let it get away from you, even after you fell the water!" He said chuckling a little bit.
Kenai, now over next to Tug by the water, turned his head toward the other group as he heard someone fall in with a resounding splash![i/] As she remerged, he saw a fish clasped in her jaws and he felt a tinge of friendly competition.
"Ok, Tug. Let's do this." He said, determined not to be bested by Nita.

Tug looked at the water "Okay Kenai, you need to brace yourself with your back feet when you lung after a fish. Also you don't need to throw your head into the river to catch the fish or will fall in every time no matter how much you brace yourself with you back legs."

Kenai, not wanting to be the only bear without a fish, barely listened to Tug as he resumed his original position.
"Like this?" He asked, and without waiting for a response, lunged forward after a fish and promptly fell into the water with a resounding splash!

Nita climbs out with Denaik's help, slightly dazed. It takes a few moments for the realization to sink in that she actually caught a salmon. Once she's safely out of the water, she drops her prize at her feet and gasps to catch her breath.
"Thanks, Denaik," she says breathlessly. She looks around for Kenai and catches a glimpse of him looking her way, before he turns back to the river; the look on his face makes her grin. She sits down to watch him.
Seeing movement out of the corner of her eye, Nita places a protective paw on her catch even before she turns to look; sure enough, Footpad is there, and Nita eyes him suspiciously. The raccoon hastily steps back, waving a paw in front of him. "Hey, easy, I just wanted a better view of the...show."
Proving his point, he turns to watch Kenai, and a moment later the bear has fallen in. Footpad snickers. Feeling much better now that her part is over, Nita laughs a little, too.

Gasping for air a second in the same day, the already wet Kenai struggled to pull himself out of the water and onto dry land. He now realizes that he may have been a tad over-eager to start catching fish. He catches a glimpse of Nita, Denaik and Footpad chuckling good-naturedly at him.
He shakes as much of the water out of the fur as he can, and sits down facing Tug, waiting for him to regive the instructions, paying full attention to him.

Kirchy sat by the river. She watched the salmon swim by for a minute. She finally stood up and swiped her paw in the water. She growled in frustration. She had missed! It must be because she was so tired. But she was even hungrier. After a couple more tries, she finally managed to catch a large fish. She grinned and started on her dinner.

Tug winced as Kenai fell head long into the river. Gasping and clawing himself back onto land came the overly eager young bear which Tug gave a rather disapproving look. Apparently Kenai got the point and was giving Tug his full attention. "Kenai, you need to brace yourself with your back feet and don't throw yourself at the fish." said the big bear in a disapproving, yet concerned tone. "Otherwise you'll be spending more time in the river than practicing your fishing."

Looking back over his shoulder at Nita to make sure she, and everyone else, was watching, Kenai positioned himself exactly as Remmus had told him to do and surveyed the water for fish. After about 30 seconds the shimmer of a fish, a rather large fish at that, swam right underneath him. Without hesitating, Kenai launched forward and snatched the fish clean of the water. So surprised was he from catching the fish, the grip from his back claws slackened and he immediately fell face first into the water. But he had managed to hold onto the fish throughout the entire experience of using all his strength to pull his soaking wet and heavy body onto the land.
Exhausted, he let the fish fall out of his mouth and, panting, lay on the bed of the river, a content smile on his face.
