"Where's the cut? Let me see," says Nita, concern rising in her voice. This bad day keeps getting worse, and she's beginning to wonder if this string of misfortune is another sign. Could the spirits be doing it? But why would they?
"If you'd just stayed in bed like you said you would, this wouldn't have happened," she scolds, gradually getting louder and faster. "And if you'd just waited a moment and listened to me, we could have got him down safely." Worry is always quick to raise her temper.

"Niba tis izn't my fault! I wouba been fine if Koduh hadn't kicked the pib!" I was getting kinda of annoyed at how my cut close to my lip. It made me talk funny.
I flashed a glance of annoyance at Koda, wondering if he was showing any signs of remorse for what he had done. Keeping my paws on my muzzle, trying to keep the blood inside my body, I awkwardly walk to the river on my two hindlegs.
*muttering* Hmph...stupid spirits, always getting in the way...Koduh...*grumble, grumble*

Nita doesn't say anything else to either of them for a few moments, letting Kenai go tend to his wound. Searching for something to occupy herself with, she remembers that none of them have had breakfast yet, except maybe Koda -- she's not sure what he was up to this morning. She looks at the river and considers her options. She's no great fisher herself, and she's in no mood to practice right now. No, she'll have to see what she can find in the woods.
"I'm going foraging," she announces, in a tone that says 'don't follow'. She just needs a moment to cool down.

After washing out my lip, my lisp goes away for the most part.
"Nita...wait...I didn't mean it....Come back..."
I was about to follow her, but that tone she used forced me to stay put. I sighed. Then I noticed that Koda wasn't around, so I went to look for him. I needed to vent my anger, and what better way than pulling a prank or two on Koda?

OOC: Hmm...Demia hasn't been online in three days, with no prior explanation. I think under these circumstances it's fair to take control of Koda to keep things moving.

OOC; K, this post is as Koda then
BIC: I looked at Kenai. Maybe I shouldn't have kicked the pin...He looked pretty beat up. Around his lip was bleeding badly, and he was talking funny. I almost started laughing again until he caught my eye, and I thought I saw a gleam of vengeance in it. Now would probably be a good time to be somewhere *not* here...
I headed upstream before Kenai had a chance to follow me. I knew he would come looking for me, and I didn't want to make it easy on him. Then i saw a cave. The perfect hiding spot!

OOC: I'm trying out a new character here, in the second part. BIC: After a few steps into the trees, Nita begins to wonder how she's going to bring anything back for the guys. This is one of those times that she misses having hands...and her bag. She doesn't turn back yet, though. The search will do her good, and then they can all come back to eat breakfast together. Maybe that will make up for today's rocky start, and they can get back to...sleeping. As a bear, it's not that hard to find something you can eat. Finding something Nita is quite ready to try, on the other hand...that takes a slightly keener eye. She doesn't want to start the morning off with something that tastes like damp earth. --- Something is already hiding in the cave, and it almost has a heart attack when it sees a bear cub come poking around. It backs up further into the shadows, just out of sight, but the cave doesn't go very deep -- it's cornered. There's a quiet sound like a small throat being cleared, followed by a disproportionately loud voice -- the cavern walls create an impressive booming echo. The current occupant is counting on that to aid his bluff, making him sound at least three times his size. "Whaddaya think you're doing here, pipsqueak? Don't you know better than to stick your nose into somebody else's home?" The voice is clearly male.

OOC: Kenai first part, Koda second
BIC: I started sniffing around until I caught Koda's scent. Following it, I headed upstream, toward the mountain we had past coming here. I knew Koda couldn't have gotten that far, it hadn't been too long since we had parted...
And sure enough, I caught a glimpse of Koda wandering into a cave. Stealthily, I crept up to the mouth of the cave to see what Koda was up to, but more importantly, to plan my revenge...
__________________________
BIC2: I had only been in the cave for not even a minute when an exceptionally loud and augmented voice came booming through the cave.
"Whaddaya think you're doing here, pipsqueak? Don't you know better than to stick your nose into somebody else's home?"
I jumped, then turned tail and fled as fast as I could out of that cave. I could see the mouth of the cave...almost there...two more steps...and then out of nowhere a gigantic figure jumps out in front of the cave roaring and thrashing. It was a monster! I stumbled and fell on my face. I closed my eyes, crying, waiting for the monster to attack me...

Just as the creature in the cave is silently congratulating himself, thrilled at his success, a real monster appears at the cave entrance. The one lurking in the shadows spoils the whole act by shrieking in terror. The sound reverberates around the small cave, deafening and disorienting him, causing him to stumble into the light.
It's a raccoon. A rather scrawny one, at that. He grabs his aching head, wincing. "Aww, geeze..."

OOC: This post has both Kenai and Koda in it, so no double posts for me
I had been waiting for Koda to come out of the Cave, when suddenly a male voice says:
"Whaddaya think you're doing here, pipsqueak? Don't you know better than to stick your nose into somebody else's home?"
Then I hear Koda running toward me really fast! I crouch and get ready to spring...
*This is gonna get him big time!* I think to myself.
Just then, Koda is right at the entrance! I jump out and give my biggest, loudest *ROAR!!!!* ever! I now looked at Koda, who was not, as I had supposed, only scared. He was scared out of his wits, but now he was crying! I felt so bad...
"Koda, I didn't mean it..." I walked over and sat down next to him. I pulled him close to me and hugged him. "Koda, I was just messing around..." He was still shaking, but his sobs were getting fewer and farer in between. He hugged me back. "Kenai...p-promise me you w-won't do that again..." This statement just sunk my heart...I kept forgetting he was still a cub. Even though he had been careless and inconsiderate to my feelings when he kicked the pin, I still had to consider his because he wasn't quite as tough as I was yet.
"I promise..." I whispered back to him.
While all this was happening, we didn't notice the raccoon who had stumbled into the opening of the cave...

Nita is inspecting a berry bush when she hears the roar; it's a good distance away, but loud enough to carry to her, and it sounds like it's coming from upstream. For a split second she stands there, one paw suspended holding a branch laden with berries close to her face. The next moment, she's off and running, the released branch whipping back and forth.
No, no, spirits, no...
It'll take her a few minutes to reach them; every minute is agonizing since she thinks they're in danger.
---
Ears ringing, head pounding, the raccoon watches bemusedly as the big bear comforts the little one. It slowly dawns on him that they didn't notice his little outburst, for which he's grateful. It also occurs to him that neither one seems to be here to eat him, for which he's even more grateful. He tries to slip by them unnoticed.

BIC: Koda
After we hugged, I noticed something in the corner of my still tearing eye. I wiped away the tear and turned to see who it was. I was embarrassed that someone had actually seen me crying, but I was a little more relieved when I saw it was just a raccoon. I tried to put my tough face on.
"Kenai, looks like we have company..."
BIC2: Kenai
I followed Koda's gaze to a measly raccoon. Rolling my eyes I at eyes at him, I started to walk toward him. He looked kinda of jumpy...
"What? Never seen a bear before?" I was now two steps away from him. I picked him up with teeth and growled for effect.

OOC: You don't need to put BIC in front of every post; it stands for "Back In-Character", so you only need to use if if you've written something OOC (Out of Character) first. ^^
BIC:
Approaching a cornered raccoon is never a good idea. As he feels himself lifted off the ground, his claws go flailing at Kenai's face, and he squirms and writhes to get something, anything in reach of his jaws. At this point he's convinced he's going to be eaten, but he intends to take a piece of this bear with him.
At about this time, a large animal can be heard crashing through the trees. Soon Nita appears, looking around wildly for the source of the trouble.
"What's going on? Is everyone -- Kenai, what are you doing?" Her tone is half horrified, half exasperated.
The raccoon doesn't look up. He's still a flurry of claws and teeth aimed at Kenai's face.

OOC: I knew that >< lol
BIC: I was overwhelmed by everything that had happened in less than a minute. Expecting the raccoon to be picked up easily, the flurry of claw and tooth that met my skin was a surpirse, to say the least. Then Nita came rushing out of the wood. I dropped the raccoon, who had already made a mess of my face, when I heard her say:
"What's going on? Is everyone -- Kenai, what are you doing?"
"Well, I -- That is to say, I mean...See -- The cave, and Koda..." I gestured around in all directions, hoping she would pick up what I was trying to say, but when all she gave me was a puzzled look, I gave up, dropped my arms and hung my head.
"Sorry..."
I imagined what she must have walked in on: Koda crying, me with a bloodthirsty raccoon in my jaws, and him trying to scratch my face off. If possible, I hung my head even lower, wishing I could turn invisible so they would stop looking at me...
