Since I finally bought a new copy of Land Before Time 2 and now have all of the films from one through seven, I decided to watch them in order. Then I thought I'd ask: which of the Land Before Time films is your favorite; or did you prefer the series?

I prefer the first movie myself.

I'll have to see more of them before I can vote; currently though for me it'd be II when I rewatched it I was surprised how much I liked it, so I might like of the later movies more thisi time. ^^
I think V was the funniest though and I like Pterano from VII. But I like how the series had different characters and I still haven't seen 11, 12, and 13. ^^

From what I was told and heard, movie 13 is the worst LBT movie. On Gang Of Five, it's definitely the least liked of the movies, and the yellowbellies are almost universally hated. Not sure what you'll think of it, though. A few people liked the movie.

Yeah not looking forward to that one, especially the yellowbellies (what kind of dinosaurs are they supposed to be anyway? ^^) I didn't see all of 10, so I have to catch up on that one too. Then again, I was shocked that I didn't like the Land Before Time as much as I had before when I finished rewatching it last night. :-/D: I still love the backgrounds, and the animation's still well done with better perspective, but I preferred the sequel's pacing, the grandparents, and how they handled Cera more.

They're a type of therizinosaur. Therizinosaurs are a group of plant-eating therapods (the only one of their kind I think) that had small heads, long necks, pudgy bodies, and long claws on their hands.
Personally I feel the movie handled things better. I hate the songs of the sequels, and I hate what they do to sharpteeth later on. The sharpteeth get dumber, starting with movie 6, and aren't much of a threat anymore.

Heh I would have never guessed that that's what they were aiming for ^^ Huh see I actually preferred the Sharpteeth in the sequels myself (though my favorites currently stop at 7, personally, so I can't comment beyond that). Er, don't forgot, I was saying that between 2 and 1, I preferred 2 Yeah I still don't like the songs though, even in the second. ^^ I liked Chomper, both for the plot elements and as a character. ^^ And I like how the Struthomimus occupy are like cats, predators, but themselves are prey, I hadn't thought of how that would be.^^ I didn't care for 3 as much before, so I'll have to see how what I think of it this time. ^^ I do think they should have gone to a series much sooner: I still like a lot of later plots, but I think they would have worked better as halfhour shows.m ^^

Not all the sharpteeth of the sequels were bad. But sharpteeth such as the LBT8 sharptooth and the fastbiters of LBT11 were pathetic excuses for sharpteeth. I also hate how the characters suddenly go "oh sharpteeth aren't very smart" and the sharpteeth's intelligence starts to suffer. I preferred how sharpteeth were handled in the earlier sequels. Menacing, not so stupid, but not speaking the same language.
By making the sharpteeth dumber, they actually reduced, not increased, the menacing value of the sharpteeth. As a friend of mine would say, the sharpteeth of later sequels become more like toys.
The first sharptooth was the best one so far. He was menacing, scary, and ruthless. He was the only sharptooth that scared my brother. While yes I would not have liked all sharpteeth to be exactly the same, so far, the sequels have provided only one sharptooth nearly as frightening as the first sharptooth, and that was the swimming sharptooth of LBT9.
But as I said, some of the sequel sharpteeth were handled well. I liked Chomper, I mean who doesn't? He's awesome. Dil and Ichy were good as well. I liked them. I loved that they, along with Chomper, could speak, showing that sharpteeth were indeed intelligent (I much prefer intelligent sharpteeth over the idiot sharpteeth in some of the movies). The LBT9 swimming sharptooth was awesome, and I also liked Chomper's parents and the LBT5 striped sharptooth.
I don't mind sharpteeth being used as comic relief, but if they're going to do that, they should have went a route more similar to Dil and Ichy. These two were certainly comic relief characters, but they did still pose a threat to the children, and they weren't stupid. Yet they also had some funny moments, like Ichy getting his head caught in a branch when diving for Ali, and they weren't as seriously portrayed as some other sharpteeth. Having sharpteeth's intelligence being reduced, becoming rather dumb, and have them being so easily, sometimes embarrassingly so (like the tickling of LBT11) isn't as funny to me.

Mine would have to be the 6th movie, though really, it's a pretty close call since I have quite a few favorites in the series.
And I agree with Night Bear, I didn't like as well at how the series progressed the Sharpteeth became progressively dumber and sillier. I guess the producers thought the series needed to be lighter in tone to be more successful with their target audience.

Heh I don't really remember 8 on, so I can't really comment on the sharpteeth, although that does sound bad. I'll have to rewatch 4 to really say, but from what I remembered I think what helped for Ichy and Dil was the same thing that helped for Strut and Ozzie: they have comical fights when by themselves, but can still work together with their prey and so are more menacing. Better timing, I think. ^^ One thing I had forgotten to mention, but I wonder if what they were going for with Strut and Ozzie was that the two couldn't kill Littlefoot and co. with their claws and beaks (like a vulture), given that they plan on throwing Littlefoot over the cliff and to help explain why they were hesitating to kill Littlefoot and co. In short that they were menacing even though they normally wouldn't be a threat to the kids. ^^ I always liked the sixth mainly for Doc, 'cause diplodocus using its tail like a whip is cool (at the time, at least, it was thought diplodocus would use its tail as a whip). ^^ I've been rewatching 3 currently. ^^ I don't care for the pacing in this one either , but I think the songs are better this time out. The placing's better (though I do think the placing wasn't too bad in 2). I think the lyrics got better too: better at showing the character's' feelings instead of stalling for time. I remember liking the reveal that Hyp is a bully because his father bullies him, ditto for Cera, not sure how that will hold up. Incidentally, I was surprised that in the sequels it least, as far back as 3 they seem to be going for Cera having lost her mother (during the earthquake, Cera only calls for her dad, Littlefoot for his grandparents, and Ducky for both of her parents). I had thought that hadn't come up until the later sequels when Topsy got a new mate (that and ditto that the first movie has Cera's dad called Daddy Tops). ^^

Speaking of Ozzy and Strut, I had an idea for perhaps a short or medium LBT fanfic. The premise is that an eggstealer takes an egg and is about to eat it, but it hatches. Rather than get rid of the baby, the eggstealer ends up raising the baby as its own. I don't think anyone did a story like that yet with LBT.

You mean Ozzie and Strut, or an oc? ^^
Heheh I started thinking for Ozzie and Strut: perhaps Strut wants to keep it and Ozzie doesn't and tries to to be gruff but the hatchling convinces him. Ozzie blames Strut for making him keep it but says that it could prove useful depending on its species or at least for showing off to a female. ^^
It's a shame Ozzie and Strut never reappeared in the series, it would have fun to see them. ^^

I haven't thought about that yet, to be honest. Nice ideas btw. ^^

Thanks. ^_^ Heh I still haven't finished 3, but not as fond of it as I was before. I don't like how the adults are handled in this one. The velociraptors* weren't handled terribly well either and...I didn't like how they handled the scene with Hyp's Dad. D: I still like the idea, but we only see Hyp's dad yell once and Hyp deserved it that one time since he did run off. The songs, on the other hand, while I'm still not fond of the lyrics, are much better this time out. The lyrics are better, the placing and use of the songs were much better too. *Were they supposed to be velociraptors, or were they generic dromosaurs?

Actually I liked the scene with the raptors. It's one of my fav involving sharpteeth. Not saying it's the best, but it is one of my favorite.
