EPISODE 1: APPEARANCE IN PUERTO RICO
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a deep, shadowy hallway of an underground tunnel, a figure runs through it down the tunnel, a red aura surrounding the figure to illuminate the way. The anthropomorphic black bear runs like lightning through the tunnel, an enchanting prism dangling around his neck as his arms swing back and forth, pumping speed and force as he runs through the tunnel. The bear comes to a sudden stop as he enters a large chamber in the underground tunnel’s end, staring unto a dark being with bloodlust red eyes, identical as the anthro bear but darker. The being charges for the attack, but the bear jumps out of the way and up into the sky, turning his body over in a somersault to face the being and chucks a red flame beam attack to it. The being takes the hit but turns to fight his light-colored twin.
The bear lands on his feet and counters the being’s attacks, parrying a punch and blocking the other. The prism dangling around the bear’s neck reacts and intertwines with the red aura, giving an even more hypnotic glow around the bear. The being suddenly feels weak and overwhelmed, giving the bear enough time and power to pummel the being with punches and kicks, the being letting each blow strike as he fumbles back from the pain and attacks. And finally, with one well placed kick, the being is sent flying against the wall and it cracks and breaks behind it, an attack that should’ve broken his back with the impact to the wall, but the being simply sagged into a sitting position against the wall, it simply struggling to just raise his head to stare at the bear, who is simply standing in front of him with his hand aiming at the being’s head…
Suddenly, the camera zooms out from the bear and it rotates around him as it zooms out, fading into white and into the soft brightness of what appears to be a monitor. The camera gives one final rotation to the left, revealing that the background has changed into a dormitory room, and the camera stops rotating into a close-up of a human boy’s head, staring into a bright monitor as typing noises are heard.
“ ‘…He kept the Darksoul into position with his hand aimed at its head…’ ” The boy quotes himself as he types his own words into the computer. “ ‘Ken’ichi knows that he has won this battle. The Twilight prism dangling around his neck, which was lended to him by Spec, has helped him in reaching his goal, now he’s ready to use the prism’s power to send Darksoul into oblivion, to where he should’ve gone when Ken’ichi was cleansed…’ ”
“Luis!” A female voice calls out from outside his room, until a woman enters his room to stare at her son working on the computer. “You’ve been on that computer for hours now! Don’t you think it’s time for you to turn that off?”
“Almost mom!” Luis replies. “I just want to finish something here that I’m working on and I’ll turn it off.”
Luis’ mom sighs. “Well hurry up with it and go to bed! It’s 10 minutes past your 11pm curfew!”
“I will.” Luis replies as his mother exits the room. He stares at the computer monitor, which displays a green colored message board with flashy stars in the back of it. In the middle of the screen shows a big white box with text within it, under it has two button-like options: “Post” and “Cancel”.
“ ‘…He glares at Darksoul before giving the final word…’ ” Luis quotes his roleplay message for spell check and the works, but it was quickly followed with a yawn. “.Oh man…So tired…” He blinks his sleepy eyes and gets up from the chair, and lays himself on his comfy bed on his belly. “I’ll just close my eyes for a while…”
And with that, Luis closes his eyes and almost instantly falls asleep…Leaving his computer on and his roleplay post undone…
Right after Luis dozes off into dreamland, the camera zooms into the computer’s monitor, through the message board and through the stars background, and ends up in the middle of the battlefield between Ken’ichi and the Darksoul. Like we left them off before, Ken’ichi is standing in front of a defeated Darksoul, his hand aimed at it with that glaring look in his eyes.
“So you’re going to finish me…” Darksoul speaks, a dark and sinister voice coming out from its snout, a mix of Ken’ichi’s voice and an evil voice. “Go ahead, finish me off…”
Ken’ichi though, just stands there, struggling to move, but he doesn’t succeed, he can’t even move his arms, none of his limbs are movable without the author of the roleplay post to command it in writing, literarily.
“Hm?” Darksoul blinks as he watches his light-side copy struggling to move. “You cannot do it? Or can’t you simply…” He continues with a grin, “Move?”
Darksoul had this chance to eliminate Ken’ichi once and for all. But…Something else bought his attention more than the paralyzed Ken’ichi…
“What’s that?” Darksoul asked himself as he glances to his left, spotting what appears to be a huge monitor screen taking the whole wall from ground to roof, giving off a bright white light that you cannot even see what lies beyond it. “Yes…” Darksoul continued, “This could be my ticket to escape from the Roleplay World.”
With that, Darksoul rushed to the portal. Ken’ichi can do nothing but keep his eyes on Darksoul, watching as his dark-side copy made its getaway to what seems to be a portal to the Real World.
“No! Come back!” Ken’ichi shouts to Darksoul, but it was futile, Darksoul jumps into the portal…Escaping from the Roleplay World and into the Real World…
It was in the morning that Luis opened up his eyes once again, and they open up wide open as he quickly registers what has happened.
“Oh no!” He tells to himself as he sits up on his bed, “I fell asleep!”
He glances at his computer, the thing is still on! He rushes over to it and looks at the screen. He’s glad that it’s a Saturday; his mom has no reason to wake up early to go to her job to sneak in to his room at 6am just to give him her daily kisses before going to work, so she hasn’t found out about this mess-up.
“Gotta work fast…” Luis whispers to himself as he quickly maximizes the window that holds his roleplay post, he needs to finish the post and turn off the computer before his mom and grandma find out that he left it on all night, or else…
“Eh?” Luis whispers as he re-reads his post, it seems like something messed with it, some stuff have been cut off and deleted, most of everything about Darksoul is gone, especially at the end of his unfinished post, and it’s just riddled with gibberish!
Luis starts typing in fixing the messed up post. “How did this-” However, he’s been cut off as the monitor brightens up massively, making him fumble back to get distance. A bright silhouette comes out of the monitor and something pops out of the monitor! Flying across the room and smashing into the room’s wall on its back.
“Agh!” The thing cries out in pain as he strikes the wall and drops, landing on top of the dresser and shoving everything on the dresser down to the ground. Everything made out of crystal shattered into pieces as everything made out of plastic and cardboard made noise when it struck the ground.
Luis was in shock on his bed, trying to get some distance of what just popped out of his monitor. The thing was sort of in a crouching position, yet his chest and belly inches from the dresser that it was using as a ground, rubbing his head to rid of the daze. It was clothed in a pair of long ocean-blue jeans, a black sleeveless shirt and fingerless glove, around its neck was a crystal and a prism, a scar is on his right cheek which goes down to his chest, and its clothes is somewhat scarred and dirty, as if it was in a fight.
“Ow…” It said, raising his head to look around and setting his eyes on Luis. “You! Where am I?”
Luis lets out a surprise scream as his mind finally registers who it is, he can’t mistake those clothes and those pair of red ruby eyes. “You’re…You’re Ken’ichi!” He finally spoke.
“Ugh, yeah…” Ken’ichi replies as he sits on the dresser’s edge and pushing his body off of it and on his feet unto the real ground. “Who are you?”
Luis, feeling a bit calmer, gets off from his bed to stand in front of Ken’ichi. “I’m Luis, and this is my room, in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico.”
“Puerto Rico?” Ken’ichi echoes.
“What’s going on in there?” Luis’ mom asks from her room as she is waking up from the commotion in his room. Soon, his mother and grandma burst into his room, gasping at what lays in front of them. Not the mess on the ground, but the creature standing in front of them.
“Luis…” His grandma starts, shaking from staring at the thing in front of her. “Wha…What is that thing?!”
Ken’ichi turns to Luis’ mom and grandma and tries to smile. “My name is Ken’ichi, I sort of came through the computer monitor from the Roleplay World, looking for Darksoul.”
“What?!” Luis asks rather worried. “Darksoul?! Here?!”
Ken’ichi nods as he turns his head to Luis. “Yes. He escaped from the Roleplay World last night!”
“Last night?!” Luis asks again, glancing at his mom and grandma to see if they’re angry at him for having the computer left on last night, but instead, he just sees expressions of confusion on their faces.
“I gotta go find him and bring him back!” Ken’ichi announces, then turns and runs through Luis’ mom and grandma, through the hallway and to the front door, which was already wide open, clueing him that Darksoul exited through it.
“Ken’ichi! Wait!” Luis cries as he runs after Ken’ichi, forcing the bear to stop in front of the front door. “I’ll go with you! I can help you in searching for it!”
Ken’ichi shakes his head. “You can’t! It’s going to be dangerous when I find him!” With that, Ken’ichi rushes out the door.
“But you don’t know anything about this place!” Luis counters. “You wouldn’t know where to start looking!”
Ken’ichi was caught off guard about the fact and he stopped running, jogging in place. “Geez…You’re right.” He turns to Luis, still jogging in place.
“I can help you search for it.” Luis offers. “Then I can hide somewhere safe when we find it.”
“Alright then.” Ken’ichi begins as he grabs the prism around his neck and holds it up. “Hang on tight then.”
The prism suddenly began to glow, and a twilight aura surrounds him and Luis. And as soon as that happens, both of the youth slowly ascend off of the ground and into the sky, the aura granting them the power to fly.
Luis cries out in surprise as he witnesses himself lifting off the ground. “Whoa! Aah! How do I fly this thing?!”
Ken’ichi laughs. “You’re the roleplay author, you can figure it out!”
Ken’ichi ascends higher into the sky and flies around the area, waiting for Luis to figure this flying stuff out.
“Oh…Heheh, that’s right.” Luis admits, embarrassed that he knew how to do this all along, he learned this through his roleplay session as Ken’ichi, he especially should’ve known about this. Luis just did what he learned through the roleplay as soon enough he was flying around with Ken’ichi. He looked down to see his mom and grandma staring at them in shock, seeing their boy flying around with an anthro bear from another world.
“We’ll be back soon! Don’t wait up!” Luis cries out to his mom and grandma as he takes flight into the distance with Ken’ichi.
Ken’ichi looks around the scenery below him, getting an overview of the place to see if he can spot his Darksoul self. “So how big is this place?” He asks as he turns his head to Luis.
“Well,” Luis begins. “Puerto Rico is 100 miles wide and 30 miles long, the smallest island in the Biggest Antilles.”
“100 miles wide and 30 miles long, eh? That’s pretty big.” Ken’ichi comments, but then blinks. “But…Biggest Antilles? What’s that?” Ken’ichi asks, wondering what it is.
“It’s a chain of islands from Cuba to Puerto Rico.” Luis explains. “Heheh, we’re not alone in the Atlantic and Caribbean Ocean.”
“Heheh, well we got a lot of ground to cover then, I don’t know where to start.” Ken’ichi confesses as he looks around the ground below him. “Maybe somewhere where there are not as many trees or open fields to hide in.”
“I got just the place!” Luis announces as he turns and starts flying north east. “Follow me!”
“Whoa! Wait for me!” Ken’ichi cries as he turns around and follows Luis.
“Where are we?” Ken’ichi asks as he sits on the edge of a building’s rooftop, watching the roads below as people and cars pass by the road below him.
“We’re in the capital city of Puerto Rico, called San Juan.” Luis explains. “It’s an island just off the shore of Bayamon, over here is where important special events take place.”
“But how can the people from Puerto Rico get to this island if it’s separated?” Ken’ichi asks.
Luis points to a bridge not far from them. “San Juan is connected to the island with a pair of bridges; if those bridges fall down there would be no way to get to San Juan from the island, unless you want to take a swim to it.”
“That’s interesting!” Ken’ichi admits as he stands up and looks around the capital city from the rooftop. “We’ll have a good chance to find Darksoul if we take to the skies here, so let’s go!”
Ken’ichi and Luis take off once again to the skies, looking around the streets of the capital city, but Ken’ichi spots something that makes his blood run cold. “Oh no!” He takes off in quite a hurry to the northwest of the city, staring at something in the distance. “Oh man! We’re too late! Look at this!” He shouts to Luis as he points to a rather old-looking castle ruins. “Darksoul was here! Look at what he did to this castle!”
Luis laughs. “Relax Ken’ichi, that was like that a long time ago, Darksoul couldn’t have done this.” He flies closer to the ruins and turn to Ken’ichi. “That castle is called El Morro. It used to belong to the explorer Christopher Columbus, he’s the one who discovered this island by accident, thinking he made a trip around the world and ended up in his hometown in Spain.”
“Heheh, an accident, eh?” Ken’ichi echoes his friend’s statement. “Well it was an accident well worth it!” He finishes as he turns to fly around, but suddenly something flies across him, scaring him a bit. “Ack! What the?!”
“Heheh, relax Ken’ichi, look around you.” Luis commands his anthro friend. Ken’ichi does so and spots a large number of kites flying in the air, kids and adults flying them from below on the ground, running around and trying to keep their kites up in the air. “Many people have taken advantage of this place to fly their kites. The wind is so strong here that this area has been labeled the best place to fly kites! The wind never stops here!”
“Whoa!” Ken’ichi barely avoids colliding with a kite. “So I can see.” After that, Ken’ichi’s ears perk up as he hears a little boy crying out for something. He looks over his shoulder and spots that little boy running after the string of his kite, which must’ve slipped from his grip and now it’s flying away. Ken’ichi flies to the kite and grabs it by the string, suddenly being yanked by the wind’s powerful blow on the kite. Ken’ichi grunts as he goes against the wind and pulls the kite to him, finally managing to grab the thing and fly down to the ground, landing in front of the kid who lost it.
“Here you go.” Ken’ichi says softly to the little child as he kneels down to him to return the kite.
“Thanks.” The kid thanks him as he receives the kite from Ken’ichi. Obviously this child is a bit too young to be scared of such an anthro bear, but everyone else doesn’t have a problem in staring at him and stepping back from the human-bear hybrid freak, as seen from their eyes.
“Hold tightly on that kite now.” Ken’ichi tells to the little kid, and before he takes off into the sky…
BOOM!
A chunk of a wall from the El Morro blows into pieces. All of the people standing in the kite flying zone scream and take off running, letting their kites go and fill the skies with it. Ken’ichi turns to the ruins of the castle wall to meet the pair of red eyes that belongs to none other than…
“Darksoul!” Ken’ichi cries out as he glares at his dark-side self, standing on the remains of the wall he just destroyed.
“So you have followed me to the Real World, did you not?” Darksoul asks as he crosses his arms.
Ken’ichi gets into position, ready for a fight. “I’ve been looking for you! Now I’m going to take you out!”
Ken’ichi charges and stretches out his arm, shooting a fire energy blast to Darksoul. But, the devious Darksoul reaches out and catches the energy blast on its hand, absorbing it into his own hand. “Nice try…”
Darksoul turns 360 degrees and throws the energy blast. It soon changes into a wall of fire and engulfs around Ken’ichi. Ken’ichi closes his eyes and protects his face from the blast that he’s been expecting, but nothing have struck him, only a huge concentration of heat all over his body. Ken’ichi opens his eyes to see himself surrounded by fire, a huge wall of intense fire! Ken’ichi growls and tries to divide apart the fire circle with the red prism’s fire power, but the fire is too powerful to be allowed to break apart for a chance to escape.
“Let your end be by the fiery rage of the fire, you shall not escape its fury.” Darksoul says while crossing his arms and watching his light-side self burn into the fiery rage.
“Ken’ichi!” Luis cries out as he lands on the ground and staring at the battlefield, seeing his anthro friend struggling to get out of the blast.
“C’mon! C’mon!” Ken’ichi shouts, frustrated at trying to get rid of this wall of flame. But, oblivious to Ken’ichi, the fire is spreading all over the grass, endangering everyone around the whole area.
Luis backs away from the scene, avoiding the fire that is spreading like the wild fire that it is. “Run!” Luis shouts to the crowd. “Get away from the fire! Run!!”
The huge mess of crowd runs from the fire, while Ken’ichi is left alone to deal with the inferno. “God! How to stop this thing!” Ken’ichi cries, trying to extinguish the fire. He tries to manipulate it with the red prism, but the fire is too wild to control. He growls and tries again, accidentally tapping into the twilight prism’s power, but that was enough to extinguish a piece of it, which caught the bear off guard. ‘That’s it!’ Ken’ichi thinks to himself. ‘With the power of flight from the twilight prism, and the power of strength from the red prism, I can combine them to create a powerful wind that any flame can be extinguished with ease!’
Ken’ichi concentrates on both prisms, engulfing him in the aura of both twilight and fire. He claps both his hand together after a short pause of concentration and a huge bubble of wind bursts from him and out into the whole area. The kites still in the air are blown away into the ocean, and the fire that has been spreading like wild fire extinguish like nothing! Soon, the place is smoked with heat, grasses burned and streets charred. Ken’ichi isn’t a pretty sight either, his clothes are a bit charred and some burned marks on his cheeks and arm
“Ken’ichi!” Luis cries as he runs toward his anthro buddy. Ken’ichi glances to where Darksoul stood…But he’s not there anymore.
“Are you alright?” Luis asks as he stops in front of Ken’ichi.
“I’m alright,” Ken’ichi replies. “A bit hot, but fine.”
Luis looks around, seeing all the damage Darksoul has done. “Look at all the damage, there must be a few hundreds of lawn damage here…”
Ken’ichi looks around and nods. “We better go. Darksoul is gone, but he couldn’t have gotten far.” After that, Ken’ichi takes off to the skies, thanks to the twilight prism; he needs to thank Spectrum for this when he gets back.
“Hey! Wait up!” Luis cries out as he joins Ken’ichi up in the sky.
The duo takes flight close around the beach, above the clear blue ocean. Ken’ichi seems to be taking an interest in this sight seeing, he totally forgot about his encounter with Darksoul back there in front of El Morro as he takes mental pictures of the beaches.
“Wow! Look at how the people pour in into the beach! It’s like they’re hypnotized to come to the beach to reach it this fast!” Ken’ichi mentions in awe of the site.
“That’s because San Juan is very small in terms of longitude,” Luis explains. “You can reach the beach in no time, and you can see it just about anywhere.”
Ken’ichi smiles as he flies lower above the clear blue water, touching the water with his claws and fingers as he flies over it.
“They take great care of these beaches.” Luis continues. “That’s why it’s so sparkly and blue!”
Ken’ichi grins and zooms past next to a female water skier, who in return gasps out in surprise and wipes out into the water. “Hi!” Ken’ichi greets with a wink after the female water skier resurfaces to stare at the anthro bear who just zoomed past her and flying away.
The duo continues to fly around the capital city in search of the Darksoul, while in the process taking some sight-seeing of the buildings and beautiful scenery of the ocean and the crowds of people soaking in them.
“Hey Luis!” Ken’ichi points out as they continue flying around the beaches of the capital city. “What’s that dog doing standing over those rocks?”
Luis looks at where Ken’ichi is pointing to and spots a figure in shape of a dog. “That’s no dog,” Luis affirms. “That’s just a rock formation.”
Ken’ichi blinks and flies to the ‘dog’, which up close he can clearly see that it’s indeed a rock formation. “No way!” Ken’ichi cries. “How can rocks form up like this?!”
Luis chuckles. “Well, legend has it that when the castle ruins were young, a soldier found this stray dog and took it under his care. But one day, the soldier was called into war in the ocean, and his dog stood right here to wait for his master. Unfortunately, his soldier owner died in the war, but the dog never learned that. He just stayed sitting here on this very place until his body petrified into cold, hard stone.”
“Awww, poor thing.” Ken’ichi sadly says as he circles around the rock dog. “Can’t we break him free from his rocky prison?”
“I’m afraid not,” Luis informs. “It’s just a legend to go with this unique rock formation, there’s no proof that it’s real.”
“Still, it’s a sad story.” Ken’ichi informs as he takes up farther into the sky. “But anyway, let’s search deep in the island!”
With that, the duo flies deeper into Puerto Rico, looking over to spot any sign of Darksoul. They continue flying to the center of the island, where a chain of mountains are everywhere; they fly through and between mountains, each one careful not to fly into one of them.
“Man, so many mountains…” Ken’ichi comments as he flies between mountains and ascending and descending repeatedly to avoid any impacts with any of them.
“Puerto Rico consists of many mountains, especially in the middle.” Luis explains once again the geography of the island. “This is the Centric Mountain Range, where most of the mountains are located. These mountains can be from 1,000 to 3,000 feet high!”
“Wow, that’s pretty high!” Ken’ichi comments on that fact as he flies next to his human friend.
Luis nods and continues. “The highest one is Cerro Punta, which is about 4, 398 feet high!”
Ken’ichi is feeling dizzy just thinking about how high it is…Actually, he’s just is! “Uugh…Luis…” Ken’ichi begins, sounding dizzy and loosing altitude. “I don’t feel so good…We need to land…”
“Oh OK.” Luis replies, looking below to spot any place to land. “Over there! C’mon!”
Both of them descend and land on a clearing between two mountains, a lake to help them in sooth their thirst and refresh their tongues and throats. Ken’ichi sits down, clutching his forehead with the palm of his hand, trying to sit down this daze he’s feeling.
“You feeling alright?” Luis asks as he sits down besides Ken’ichi.
“Yeah…” Ken’ichi replies, still sounding dizzy. “This sort of always happens to me when I use this prism too much…How long have we been flying around?”
“I don’t know,” Luis replies, “About…A couple of hours?”
Ken’ichi wipes his forehead with the palm of his hands, still feeling dizzy.
“How about a drink of the lake?” Luis suggests as he points to the lake in front of them.
“Sure…Maybe that’ll sooth this down…” Ken’ichi replies, looking at the lake. “Looks neat, if I wasn’t so dizzy I would’ve jumped in for a swim.”
“You’ll have plenty of other chances.” Luis begins as he helps Ken’ichi in standing up and walk to the lake. “Puerto Rico contains about 9 lakes and over 50 rivers and streams.”
“Sweet.” Ken’ichi comments. “I imagine a lot of Puerto Ricans go to them for dips, huh?”
Luis shrugs. “Well, some of them are off limits, but most of them are accessible.”
Ken’ichi sniffs the air, and suddenly stops in his tracks. “Luis…I can smell it…”
“Smell it?” Luis asks. “You mean…”
Ken’ichi nods and turns around, spotting Darksoul standing there with its arms crossed. “So you survived…Lucky shot, Keni…”
