Chapter 1: The Last Talisman
It was the last one. That was somewhat comforting news to archeologist/part-time secret agent Jackie Chan, who had grown tired of his long time of world travel and research to hunt down twelve strange and magical talismans. Only one remained left to locate--the Tiger Talisman--and the sooner he retrieved it and locked it away in Section 13's fault away from reach of the Dark Hand, the sooner his life could return to normal.
The last of the magical trinkets had been traced to the abandoned remains of what appeared to be an old Native American village in southwest Canada. There had been no sign of the Dark Hand's Enforcers yet, but Jackie wasn't about to risk letting his guard down. After all, they have been known to pop up at any given time.
As of the point Jackie entered the site of the village, there was no sign of the familiar criminals, but he could not shake the feeling that he was being watched. He decided to ignore it for the most part but stay on his toes just in case. But just as he began looking around a corner...
"
Hi, Uncle Jackie."
...a familiar voice and greeting made him whip around to spot his impulsive and tomboyish niece, Jade.
"Jade! I thought I told you to stay at the hotel!"
Jade scoffed. "What? And listen to Uncle complain 24/7 about how hot or cold his tea is?"
Jackie shook his head. "Oh, whatever. Let's just get the talisman and bring it back to Section 13... then our lives can return to normal."
"What about the talismans the Dark Hand already have?" persisted Jade. "The sheep and the dragon?"
"If the Dark Hand try to pull anything off with them, we can take them back
then," her uncle assured her before feeling through a small crevice for something.
"Let's just hope they don't pull anything as serious as that stone poison scenario," she reminded him. "You'd still be a statue had it not been for the Horse Talisman."
Jackie smiled as he pulled a metal box from the crevice and opened it up. "Yes, and it is a good thing we did not have to trade the other talismans to get my cure," he added as he looked down at the small, stone trinket with a tiger carving on it. A thought came to him, and he looked at his nice. "You did remember to put the talismans back in their vault... right?"
Before Jade could answer, someone had bungee jumped from a tall tree and snatched the talisman from the box. "
Zoink!" It was Chow!
Finn waved down from his and the Enforcers' perch. "Hey, Chan man and Chan girl! Hope you don't mind, but we'll be taking this talisman to our boss, OK?"
Calling back up to him, Jade replied, "As a matter of fact, we
do mind!" With that, she grabbed hold of a low branch and began to swing up towards them.
Seeing it as time to split, Finn, Ratso, and Chow started jumping from tree to tree to make their escape. However, Jackie managed to run around and hop up onto the tree in front of them to cut them off. Ratso stared, commenting, "Dang, he's fast."
"We've got you surrounded!" cried Jade.
Adding to what his niece said, Jackie told the Enforcers, "I believe you know what we want."
"Forget it, Chan!" barked Chow as the three abandoned the tree branches and took off across the forest surface, the Chan duo in hot pursuit.
"So, all we have to do is out run the Chan clan until we reach our chopper," puffed Ratso as they ran.
Finn stared at him and replied, "Hey, easier said than done."
"Maybe not." Ratso pulled a handheld device out of his jacket. "I nicked this off of some Section 13 guy on a bus. From what I heard, I'm guessing it's some sort of teleporter device."
Chow grinned. "Sweet... see if you can set the coordinates on our getaway vehicle so we can actually get away with a talisman."
"Well, OK, I'll try." But, while he was pressing buttons, he wasn't paying attention to where he was going and tripped on a root, causing the other two to fall with him. Moments later, Jackie and Jade caught up.
"Look, Jade. It seems our good friends, the Enforcers, lost their footing," the former pointed out jokingly.
Jade grinned and replied, "Yeah. Looks like they need a little weight taken off their backs."
She she reached down to try to pull the talisman off Chow, but he shoved her back. In turn, she bumped into Ratso, who was just pulling himself up. The force knocked him back down, and his face smacked against the controls of the stolen device.
"Uh... oh..." mumbled Chow. Everyone stared at the device as a surge of energy began to emerge from it.
This is where the Jackie Chan Adventures
opening theme goes.As the group of five came to, they slowly began to notice their surroundings. For one thing, the plant life around them seemed much younger. Also, when they looked in the direction of the abandoned village they had come from, there was bonfire smoke and the sounds of people coming from that area.
Ratso rubbed his head. "Uhhh... what just happened?"
"Your big head bumped that Section 13 teleporter device," told Finn.
Now fully conscious, Jackie glared at the trio. "Oh, so that's Section 13 property, hmm? Well, I'll just have to take it back then." That said, he grabbed the device.
"Whatever," said Ratso. "Let's just get out of here."
As the enforcers ran, Jackie inspected the device curiously. "Hmm... something doesn't make sense. Finn said that this was a teleportation device, but our location looks the same as before... yet different."
Jade rubbed her head. "Well... remember Kepler's chrono-whatsit beam? The one we accidentally ended up in the 70's with? Well, I remember hearing that Kepler wanted to perfect his whole time travel project."
Her uncle stared at her incredulously. "You mean, we're in the past!?"
"Yeah, but how far into the past is the question," mused Jade.
"And, how to get back," added Jackie as he stared at the device in his hands.
"Valmont? Boss, do you read me?"
The Enforcers had made it to the clearing where they 'knew' the chopper was. Well, it wasn't much of a clearing anymore. There were a few large trees scattered around the area that had once been bare. Now, Ratso was trying to contact headquarters to call up another chopper to make their escape. The trouble was... "I can't get a signal," he told the other two.
Finn crossed his arms frowning. "I don't like this, guys. You said that was a teleporter device, right, Ratso?"
The other scratched his head. "I think that's what it was. I mean, I didn't hear much of what that agent was saying to the other agent."
Scratching his head, Finn looked around as he told his partners in crime, "Well, if you ask me, something tells me we're not in the 21st century anymore."
