I was having a lot of trouble with my computer so we installed a new hard-drive. But now everything that I used to have is gone. Could someone help me to get the good things I need? Like Windows media player or Quicktime? I especially would like to get Photoshop again. Any help? Please?

Everything is installed on your old hard drive... Besides you can download Windows Media Player from Microsoft's official website ( www.microsoft.com) and QuickTime from official Apple website ( www.apple.com). But Photoshop... well... it will be hard If you have a Photoshop on CD (to install it on new HDD) just put it in your optical device (CD / DVD-ROM) and run setup. But if you don't have it so you have two ways: 1) Borrow Photoshop on CD from someone 2) Buy Photoshop on CD 3) Download it from Internet (warning! This isn't too legal ^^; )

I'll pay for it if I have to. I just want to make sure it works.

I can help you on the Photoshop problem, Truttle.
And what programs you should get, well what kind of programs you looking for? Stuff for entertainment or things essential for the computer?

*Hmm, didn't see Night Bear's post till I was finished writing this up, but I'll post it anyway in case someone finds it useful.
Well, it depends on what version of Photoshop you want. If you don't mind using 7.0 (or even earlier) instead of CS, then you should be able to find it for a decent price on Ebay, or someplace similar.
If you're lucky, you might even find an unregistered copy of 7.0, which you can register and later upgrade to CS3 for $200. (There's one on Ebay right now, if you're brave enough to enter a bidding war...the price is currently $189.11, with 21 bids, and two days left.) Of course, if the price goes too high, it would kind of defeat the purpose of upgrading to save money.
Currently, it looks like 7.0 is the oldest version Adobe will accept for their upgrade eligibility. :\ When I got 7.0 a few years ago, I was able to get it as an upgrade from 4.0, but it looks like things have changed. Also, whatever you do, don't buy an LE of any version of Photoshop; they're not eligible for upgrade. They generally come bundled with hardware like scanners, but people often resell them on Ebay.

IMO you don't need to upgrade Photoshop to CS3 version. Like for me CS3 is like CS2, which is like CS, which also is like 7.0 // EDIT I forgot to say that it's very obvious that Photoshop 7.0 needs less RAM memory than Photoshop CS3 That's why I decided to use Photoshop CS, because it's like a bridge between 7.0 and CS2 // END OF EDIT So, whatever which version of this four you'll choose, there are very similiar (I know because I have CS and CS2). For example I work sometimes on CS2 while Bedziu has 7.0 and he can open all psd documents with all effects etc. that I send to him. And I agree with Epesi... don't get LE and Elements versions... -__-

Thanks for the help everyone. I would try Ebay but I've already run into too many problems with used products and the confidentiality of the strangers who sell them. I don't think I'll take that risk.

I would make you a CD to use to get Photoshop but first of all... I don't know your home address... Second I'm busy making DVDs of crap I have layong around (I don't even see how I have the time to come on here) And third, I'd hazard a guess that it's illegai to do something like that or something... You could try Geek Squad at Best Buy and getting a transfer on all the stuff you have on your old hard drive though...

you could copy the files over you'd have to tell me the detail of what type of hdd your running if its in a ied link switch the old hdd to slave and plug it into the middle section of the ribbon if its a sata jest plug it in and copy everything over.
i personally used photoshop had enough of upgrading the gimp is free and does allot of what photoshop can do you'd jest have to get used to a different interface if you need Microsoft office a easy solution is open office its the whole office but for free. and Windows media player is nice but VLC is a better player and it uses less system resource than windows media and can open almost any file you can throw at it and id suggest firefox and thunder bird for a browser and e-mail its more secure than opera IE ect... another good thing is avast antivires grate free antivires program uses almost no system resources when compared to nortan *shivers* or macafee *more shivers* but if you want to go all out a good program is V-Com system suite 7.
