So I finished playing Legendary today. What is Legendary? It's a game about a guy named Deckard who is tricked into activating Pandora's Box and is branded in his arm, giving him the power to absorb and wield energy. The box unleashes many mythical creatures into the world, including werewolves, minotaurs, and griffons. All the mythical creatures are violent and will kill Deckard and anyone else except for the antagonist group who controls them.
So the only thing you're doing with the mythical creatures is kill them, which does get tiring after a while, especially in areas of infinite spawn (oh yes they have those). While I do enjoy a good shooter game, the concept of Legendary could have been more interesting if the creatures were more complex than just "I BITE YOUR FACE OFF!". The only time you can do anything else with them other than kill them is brainwash them into working for you briefly, but even then they're on a killing spree.
WARNING SPOILER
But then at the end, things seem to have changed. Deckard escapes the Council of Five, who turn on him to study him like a lab rat to make a new Pandora's Box when the original has been shattered, in hopes of banishing the creatures into it. Deckard escapes, and vows to set things right. But he doesn't do it like anyone expected to.
In the final scene, a griffon lands and approaches Deckard. Instead of killing it, Deckard reaches out and gently touches the griffon's head, taming it.
Like this.
This hints that he sets out to bring about peace between humans and the creatures. I thought "Well now it's getting more interesting! I wonder how this will play out."
...then the game ends.
Seriously, it ends right there. No real conclusion, no explanation of what happened with the rest of the world, if the peace is effective, nothing. I would have been interested to see some final scenes concluding this, perhaps some of people communicating peacefully with the creatures.
It also would have been cool to do something with the creatures other than simply shooting and brainwashing them. Not sure how it would fit in, but I would have loved to ride a griffon.
I do hope they make a sequel to this game where the mythical creatures help Deckard and the player doesn't need to kill them.
