I simply love some Disney sequels. But some of them aren't as great.

I agree! Some are good Lady and the Tramp 2! And some are not as good like Toy Story 2

I thought you didn't like Lady and the Tramp 2. And TLK 2 is also really good.

Ooh....mixed feeling time! Beware me! I like some of them, but I am against the idea of it. I mean, Walt never wanted to do sequels. Never. Nope. Only one exception being Fantasia, which was done a few years ago. Now, like I mentioned before, I do like a few of them (Rescuers Down Under, TLK 2, TLK 1 1/2, Lady and the Tramp 2) but that is all. To me, most of the storylines are dumb, scrounging for something to make some random movie out of. They seem to just be made for 1) money, 2) Kids. Not that it's bad for a movie to be made for kids, but that's not only who Walt made movies for. He did not play down a movie, just for a kid. He kept the innocence of the movie, but made it for adults just as much as kids. That's why they're classics. But these 'cheapquels' as people put it sometimes, are playing down the integrity of the movies. Nothing can ever replace the original, but sometimes a bad sequel could tarnish the name of a great movie. Take The Land Before Time (not Disney, I know). Great, beautiful movie. Yet, when someone mentions it, what is the first thing people say? Not, "Oh, that is a great movie," but, 'you mean the one with 50 sequels?" Sad. Sorry, I'm ranting now. I'm kinda ticked at Michael Eisner right now.......GO ROY DISNEY! www.savedisney.com ahem. I am finished! don't know how much sense I made, but I sure do feel better!

I know what you mean Kadzit. It's sad when they try to make a movie about a story that is completely junk compared to the original. If they do that with Brother Bear I'm gonna need therapy. BTW I liked The Land Before Time, but the sequels are like some hideous kids songfest. I can't stand it. XD

I like viewing sequels, they're quite interesting. But like some of you say, not all of them are good and some of them ruins the original.

Meh...I'm pretty much against sequels. I mean, if they do a sequel on a movie after Walt's time, then that's not too bad, but usually they just do if for money, and it's disrespectful to Walt's wishes. I mean, Toy Story 2 was good...but we're forgetting that it was also Pixar that made that. And the Land Before Time ones...I'm not even going to say it. What bothers me about sequels is when they do one on a 'fairytale', say Cinderella. The ending is 'And they lived happily ever after'. That's it. Don't make a sequel after that...but they only really do that just for money. And yes...I despise Michael Eisner. Sorry, but I do. Bring back Roy! Ehe...

I found the quote I was trying to talk about earlier:
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether we be six or sixty. Call the child innocence. The worst of us is not without innocence, though buried deeply it might be. In my work I try to reach and speak to that innocence, showing it the fun and joy of living; showing it that laughter is healthy; showing it that the human species, although happily ridiculous at times, is still reaching for the stars." —Walt Disney
Sigh, he puts it SO well.

QUOTE I am so very tired of hearing people's tirades against Disney sequels. I'm rarely disappointed with them. Why? Because they never say they're going to be better, or even as good as, the original, so I never expect much! I get exactly what I think I will--a sometimes cute, but often cheesy continuation with the characters and settings we love. I don't know why everyone (mostly just obnoxious people on these boards) think that Disney owes them some big favor by cranking out films that meet exactly the standards that they have set. Everyone thinks it's some kind of personal insult that Disney continues to make sequels.
Well, guess what? THEY'RE JUST GOING TO KEEP ON COMING. So quit your whining and watch something else if you want. The truth is there is a LOT more and worse animation coming out even in theaters these days, so get off your soapbox (and I'll get off mine) and watch your beloved originals. We'll take the sequels for what they're worth and enjoy them. UNQUOTE
I totally agree! I love the sequels! In fact, the only one I hate is Pocahontas 2.

0aaab0.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=1097809231I think I said what I think fairly well in that thread, so I don't really have much more to elaborate on. Mostly, what saddens me is that, despite the fact that the primary reason for greenlighting these sequels is to make a quick buck playing on the youngest fans of the original movies, the people who actually make the movies go largely unrecognized at best, viciously berated at worst. They have made some very enjoyable stories, for all their flaws, and perhaps in spite of the not-so-honorable intentions of their superiors. Well, that's my two cents. I can't exactly speak for these people, as I myself cannot know what goes on behind the scenes, and how they really feel; but I do believe that they just want to do what they love: tell a good story.
