I've been thinking for the past couple of days, "What if I tried to write a Brother Bear novel?" Now what I had in mind was an adaptation of the original 2003 Brother Bear movie.
I'd like some suggestions. Should I just write what the movie showed and nothing else? Should I try to incorporate some new scenes? Should I introduce some of the roleplay characters here in the novelization? Should I write in the songs or just replace the songs with an explaination of the scene?
I'd appreciate any suggestions you all have. ^^
Oh and yes, this novelization is supposed to be a fanfic.

All books have sometimes more scenes than movies ^^ Besides... you can write the advetures of Kenai and Koda while they were heading to Salmon Run - in the movie it was quite fast, because then there was the "On my way" song ^^

I don't think you should include the songs! You should rather give a more description of the bears adventures and/or experiences instead of the songs!
I think you should stick to the main story-line of the movie, but try to incorperate some new scenes here and there. Your main focus should be what the movie was about, not alot of "Off topic" adventures!
Concerning Roleplay characters.. I think it would be best if you sticked to the official ones, but perhaps attempted to give a better description of the less known characters. Like Bucky, the rams, Tug etc.!

Ah. I was thinking along the lines of Land Before Time when I was thinking of the novel. The novelization of LBT did include unnamed characters that never showed up in the movie. So that's where my idea of including new characters came from.

Hmmm... well if you choose to introduce "New" characters, then atleast keep the number of characters you introduce to a minimum. I would say the characters from the movie are the more important

I know they are. The extra characters I might use in the novelization will just be "fillers" sort of speak, something extra to put in to move the story along. But the novel will be heavily focused on the plot of the movie, so it shouldn't stray far from what was intended.

Bringing in the extra characters is a good idea in my oppinion. Gives it that extra feature spunk.

Maybe a little more to the story, but not that much. (has the Lilo & Stitch novelization) As for new characters, sure, but just minor ones. As for the songs, just leave them out. The L&S novelization stated that there were such songs there, but never gave any lyrics. Besides, apart from Koda singing the beginning of "On My Way", no one was really singing other than invisible voices none of the characters noticed. OK, and the Great Spirits.

Bearish
Full-Fledged Individual
it's kind of about a man... and kind of about a bear. But mostly it's about a monster.

Go for it, but IMO i would say use the movie more as a guide than a refrence because making a fanfic is more about you making it rather than using this and that. Make it so other things inspire you to do it. And with that in mind i would also add that adding any character you want is perfectly ok because its original, and asking others for their character can even make the fanfic a collaberation kind of thing, which many fanfics dont really do, so its a new idea...but its up to you, thats just my 2 cents

Bring in Grizz in some way. That'd be cool.

But Grizz was the origional Idea for Tug, was he not? Unless... you could have Grizz and Tug as best friends...? I think you should show more scenes than the movie shows. Like when Kenai tells Koda what really happened to his mom... Have the whole confession and not just what's said in the movie. Have all the "Well... it'skind of about a man and kind of about a Bear, But mostly it's about a monster. A monster who did something so bad that the spirits carried him up, way, way up into the sky. And when he came down..." you get the whole idea... just look at the deleted scenes. I thiink you should also show more at the end rather than just Kenai oouts a paw print on the wall and end. You should follow it on a bit, showing a little of what his life was like afterwards and what the humans thought about bears after the wholething with Kenai. But yeah, as long as its well-sructured and shows more than the movie, it should be a good idea. Good luck with it!!
