A new life is waiting but danger's no stranger here... OOC: It's the morning after the fateful events on the mountain. The three brothers spent the night together under the stars; now Kenai and Koda make their way back down to the river to rejoin the bears at the run, while Denahi sets up camp to rest, restock and prepare for a long journey home.--- It's a new day. The simple fact of it has been on his mind all morning: everything is different today. For once, that's a good feeling. He's been through the wringer emotionally, but come out feeling light as air, unburdened and carefree. Such complete peace of mind can never last long, but he'll enjoy it while it does. Right now, all is right with the world...except for these gnawing hunger pains. They threaten to spoil his serenity.
"Just shut up already," he grumbles at his empty stomach, which only seems to growl more insistently in response. He grimaces, but after a moment begins to smirk, and then laugh. This time he speaks to Koda. "I don't know about you, but I could eat a moose. We're almost there, right?"
He sounds less certain and more hopeful than he meant to. It was a long way down that mountain, and Kenai's strength is flagging. He hasn't eaten a thing since...that night. Over a day ago.

OOC: Well I can atleast set up my characters I guess. In making this transition into this easier, I'm pondering if Miko and the twins were part of the mammoth herd that helped carry Kenai and Koda in the movie, nothing to say in this specific role play they weren't I guess. I don't know, anyway)
Once more, Miko let out a heavy sigh. He wasn't the oldest of his herd, at just reaching what some of his herd called the completely mature adulthood, by any means yet just that morning he'd had the heavy burden of leadership laid square on his shoulders.
Things had been worked out quickly even after such a recent tragedy as the herd loosing Miko and his twin siblings, little Lylo and Lilik's parents to a hunt over the night. This morning had been when one of the females of the herd, taking pains to speak softly to the grief striken mammoth, had nonetheless informed him that since his father had run the herd before, he was technically in charge now.
Of course another herd member had quickly but in and told told the female not to bother the boy (when folks felt sorry for you they underscored your age at times) with such things after such a tragedy. Miko had seen no other option but to take it though.
He and the twins were now on a break from the herd though. As Lylo had told him, "Ya know, I could maybe forget mom and dad are dead for two seconds if everyone would stop patting my head and telling me how sorry they are!".
That's what had made Miko think a trip to the stream to let his younger siblings try to be kids once more, might do some good. Let them splash around and chase each other and maybe for once not think about their parents not being here and he could not have to think constantly on what on earth was he going to do with leadership of a whole herd?!
Already able to put her mind somewhere else, and as they reached the base of a mountian, Lilik skipped on ahead a bit, "Hey Lylo, come catch me!" he called to her brother, and threw a trunk full of dirt in his way to try and spur him on, the boy just grimaced annoyed though and shook his head.
"Kids" he sighed, in an aweful mood due to his parents being gone. Lilik frowned, "You're the same age as me, Mr. Know-it-all" she said. "Am not, I'm two minutes older" Lylo commented. Lilik rolled her eyes. She threw another trunk full of dirt, trying to successfully distract her brother from their heartache.
All she got was snapped at, "Lilik, stop it! My gosh your so immature and annoying!". Lilik frowned and trudged on.

OOC: That sounds good to me lilik, them being part of the herd =3
IC:
As usual, Koda pops up in response as soon as he hears Kenai address him.
"Yeah! The salmon run is only about another half an hour away. And I dunno about a moose, but I'm sure in the mood for some fish!"
A story suddenly pops into Koda's head.
"Oh man! And you think you're hungry? Did I ever tell you about the time Bucky and I were at the salmon run and Bucky got his paw caught in the rocks up stream while fishing? We could hear him whining over all the noise and playing and splashing of the waterfalls! Took us about a few hours to find him and get him out, and, oh man! The first thing he did was dive into run and fish about a pile of fish about [/i]this high!"
Koda stands up on his hindpaws and gestures up as high as his front paws can go. He then jumps onto Kenai's back, looking down in anticipation at Kenai's reaction to his story.

Kenai looks dismayed at the words half an hour, but before he has time to groan, Koda has launched into another story. It actually takes his mind off of his disappointment quite nicely, at least for a moment or two. At the end, he chuckles. "Well, mine's going to be twice that high."
His ears twitch slightly as he hears what might be voices; for a moment he gets his hopes up, thinking they might be getting close to the river after all, but that hope doesn't last long. It's not like the forest is empty; there are voices all around. It's a little creepy sometimes.
He sighs. "Half an hour, huh?"

OOC: Yeah, I figured it was a good start to them at least knowing eachother. BTW, Kenai and Koda did make it off the mountain by this point right, just checking.
"Come on Lylo...be fun again" Lilik frowned, "it's bad enough that..." but she didn't finish that thought, nor did she have to. Lilik was usually the last one to be this outgoing with adventure ideas, but she was desperate to get whatever she could of her normal life back.
So, very determined now, she rushed up and tapped her twin, "Tag, you're it!" she cried, taking off. Finally, Lylo cracked and crakced a smile as well. "Oh no I'm not!" he cried as loud as he could, something Miko didn't miss and suddenly he wondered if he should tell the twins to keep it down, humans might still be about.
Eitherway he did have to semi-sprint to keep up. "G-guys!" he called, "now wait up, don't go".
Lilik, happy to have finally spurred her brother on to chasing her in his normal attitude, kept running while sticking her tongue out at him, and thus not looking where she was going. Lylo skidded to a stop, "Lilik, look...".
The young mammoth barreled straight into something and toppled over.
"...out" Lylo finished to late. As Lilik glanced up to notice it was a bear, Lylo approached and rather than be alarmed by this...although what could one bear do against Miko, he recognized the bear.
"Hey!" the kid exclaimed, "it's you, that odd bear who hitched a ride with our herd" he laughed. "Well hi again!".
"Oh, terribly sorry sir" Lilik stood up. She smiled a greeting to Koda as she noticed him too. "Did you guys ever make it to your salmon thingy?".
Miko soon caught up as well though, "Ok, maybe it was my fault for allowing you to play tag" he began to his siblings, "but don't go running off that fast again, ok?" he said even before he'd noticed Kenai and Koda.
"Yeah, yeah, no fun, I'll take that down" Lylo muttered distractedly, he was much more interested in talking with the bears right now and turned back to them after Lilik's question.

"Yeah, we did!" Koda exclaimed, excited to see the mammoths again. "In case you forgot, that's my big brother Kenai and I'm Koda."
He stated proudly, relishing getting to introduce his big brother, even if it was to someone who already knew him.
"We're heading back there right now actually, if you guys want to tag along." He grinned. "Kenai can get a little whiny when he's hungry, so I'd love to have the company." He giggled.

"Oh, I don't know if you told us he was your brother last time" Lilik commented to Koda, "but I could just sort of tell" she smiled, "I got two of my own afterall".
Lylo laughed at Koda's comment on Kenai getting whiny, "Probably no worse than Miko" he indicated his own older brother. "I'm right here ya know" Miko reminded his brother, he next rolled his eyes, but couldn't help smiling a bit, maybe traveling with these bears would be good for the twins and him, but then...could he just up and leave his herd?
"Actually" he began to tell the young cub and Kenai as well, "given how the herd was recently handed over to me I don't know if we could".
"But Miss Mabel's gonna watch the herd for a few days more, she said so" Lilik pointed out, "and...it would be nice to get away from those others for a bit".
Miko had to nod to that point. "Alright, a vacation from the others does sound good, so long as three mammoth's aren't intruding" he turned to Kenai, "but you don't have to worry about those two getting out of hand, I got 'em reigned in" he assured. "Well actually Liliks' not much of a problem" he admitted with a smile.
Lylo held in a laugh, "Yeah, in your dreams!" he said. He smiled a Koda, "I humor him into thinking he can tell me what to do".
"But in all fairness" Lilik added to her brother's comment, "Miko's not that strict, it's just you require a lot of watching". Lylo rolled his eyes.
"So what were you guys just doing?" Lilik asked Koda.

OOC: Yeah, they made it off the mountain. "It was a long way down", in past tense. ^^ Don't leave me behind, guys... --- Kenai slowly heaves himself up -- he's just been bowled over by a small mammoth. He's a little bit dazed and winded, but unharmed. What's bothering him the most is how three mammoths managed to come out of nowhere like that. He shakes it off, hears the words odd bear and realizes someone's talking to him.
"Uh, hi. Nice to meet you...again." It's an awkward social situation -- the kids remember him, but he has no memory of them. He didn't spend much time socializing with the herd.
Their conversation moves fast, and he can't keep up. Next thing he knows, Koda has invited them all to the salmon run. Before he can even figure out whether he should object, he catches a comment about his whining. He manages to hold back his retort -- anything he says right now would only prove the point.
"It's no problem," he says to Miko, though he sounds unsure himself. "You can come along, if being surrounded by bears doesn't bother you."

Miko gave a small smile, "No, being around bears doesn't bother me as much as you might think, after all I've become an expert at watching out for those two there" he indicated his siblings walking with Koda, "you couldn't do anything even if you wanted to" he assured Kenai with a smile.

"But, yeah! Anyways, I was telling Kenai it would be around half an hour to the run. Hey, did I ever tell you the time when Bucky..." Koda launches into the exact same story he had told Kenai only a few minutes before, liking the attention.
"...and it was even higher than this!" He stands up on Kenai's back, hold his paws high up over his head in order to indicate how many fish Bucky caught, exaggerating a little more than last time. Just a little.

OOC: Yeah, what he said. XD The discussion thread is here if you don't know where to find it. :3 --- Kenai laughs nervously at the implications of that last part -- it almost sounded like a threat. "Oh, no, I didn't mean that...it's just that it'll be really crowded, and it's mostly just fishing and bear stuff. I don't know if it would be much fun to a mammoth."
He hesitates. Does it sound like he's trying to discourage them? In truth, he'd be almost relieved if they decided not to come, but he doesn't want to chase them away. Hurriedly, he adds, "But if you don't mind that, I'm sure you'll love it."
He wonders, with a bit of dread, what the other bears are going to say when he shows up with three mammoths in tow. At this rate, they're never going to run out of weird Kenai gossip. Preoccupied with the conversation and his worries, he doesn't even notice that Koda is telling the same Bucky story over again.

With attention rapt to the young cub, Lylo and Lilik listen to Koda's tale, Lylo showing a bit of skepticism at Koda's telling how high the tower was.
Lilik laughed, "that sounds like the time Lylo decided to dare me on who could collect the most leaves and bark to eat from the other members of the herd, and I won with a pile this big" she indicates, "but that's 'cause I'm the baby and I'm cutest" she says, not proudly but just stating a fact and with a small smile.
"I say it's cause you're a girl and with any kind of animal for some reason they always give stuff to the girls first" Lylo response.
Miko notices Kenai's nervousness as well as nervous explanation and smiled again, "Oh no, sorry, I didn't mean to implicate you" he apologizes. He sighs, "It's been a rough day, and to tell you the truth I was just heading with Lylo and Lilik to any stream or something we first come across to try and get their minds off of...things" he says, not sure if he should just lay his troubles on a stranger.
Lilik hears him though and turns with a sad frown, "We lost our parents, both of 'em, just last night" she says.
"Stupid hunters" Lylo mutters, "they better just wish they never meet me again or I'll give 'em something ta...".
"Lylo!" Miko gently scolds, the calf hushes.
"Um...I wasn't intending to just throw our trouble at you" Miko continued with a hesitant, apologetic glance to Keani and Koda as well, "but that's kinda why we're dodging herd sympathies right now" he sighs. "They mean well but it can get smothering".

"Awww..." Koda says sympathetically. "It's ok, I know..." He stutters and folds his ears back, voice slightly choking with unintended and certainly unusual emotion.
"I know what it's like to lose family..."
He sniffs, and becomes strangely silent, brooding. He lays his head down on top of Kenai's back and looks straight ahead, yet not seeing anything in front of him.
