I have read numerous fan-made BB3 fictions earlier, and I have to say that, although most of their plot/stories are very enjoyable, they generally goes too far off from 'Brother Bear"; for example, too many new characters of self-entertainment, or the premise shifting away from the original (even BB2 had this problem too), or too many changes to the original set (like making Kenai break up with Nita and find someone else), too many transformations, etc; sometimes they have a generic "villan" as the conflict, which defeats the distinctive characteristic of Brother Bear.
I think the main source of these problems are because the second movie pretty much closed up any possibility of a sequel plot, which made it necessary to add new elements themselves. So I analyzed both movies to see if there is still any loose threads with any chances of developing into a sequel story, and here are the most useful ones I have found:
1. Denahi's story
Judging from what is shown in the first movie, It appears that Denahi's side of the story is nothing but his pursuit of the bear, which is unlikely to have much significance or value for the story to be passed on. So there must be at one point when he heard Kenai's side of the story. There is 4 different possibilities of him learning the story: A) somehow Tanana was able to hear the story from Kenai or the spirits, and told it to Denahi; B) the spirits told Denahi directly; C) the spirits at one point allows Kenai to communicate with a human (men-speak-bear or bear-speak-men, either way it doesn't matter); D) Transformation of either brothers.
Disregarding the chance of it occuring at the end of the first movie (because we're trying to find the possibility of a sequel), all except B is suitable to develop a sequel with, with D being the most appropriate. It could be that a conflict made it necessary for either brother to transform into the other spiecies (it'd also be awesome if Koda too transforms into a human, acuiring some human skills). One thing to note is that we already know that Koda and Kenai will stay as bears in the end, as stated by Denahi at the end of his story.
As for A and C, we could also be introduced to a new character, best if it's a young men, with a personality either similar to Kenai's when he was still human, or completely opposite. But if this character is to transform at one point, he must in the end return human again. This keeps "permanent changes" by the spitits to minimum and not becoming over-the-top. (Nita's transformation have already "used up" the limit in this series)
2. Kenai's totem
Kenai is seen without his totem in the second movie, which means that he either lost it or kept it himself or left it to the humans. We could use this in the plot, that Kenai at one point needs to wear it due to events of, or leading to, the conflict. If he needs to recover it from his village, this might also link with the mystery stated above, because this creates the oppertunity of a brief reunion of Kenai with his human background.
Here I am just stating how these two "loose threads" could aid in the development of a sequel, but I don't have enough imagination like those who wrote the fanfics to create a plot of my own. Maybe someone might be interested to write a geunine, not-over-the-top fanfic or just simply a brief plot from this?
I'd be awesome if Disney saw this and actually develops interest in producing an official sequel xD Though chances are unlikely, I guess.
