Heh, I thought it'd be interesting to see you guys' thoughts on the deleted characters from the film. ^^
The characters covered are:
Murri the squirrel= deleted comic relief character, a ground squirrel. Seen in the deleted scene. Was part of the story when Grizz was still involved.
Loki the raven= Tanana’s pet. Seen in character design of Tanana.
Kodi= From the draft “Shadow Bear”; forerunner of Kenai. A boy gifted with the ability to turn into any beast at will; if direct sunlight touches him, however, he’ll be stuck in that animal form forever. After losing his temper at his dad, rampages as a grizzly and is stuck in that form.
Kodi’s dad= Has been distant from his son ever since the boy’s birth, when Kodi’s mother died giving birth. Turns out to have the same gift and becomes a bear to be with him. At the end, stays as a bear to keep his son company.
Chilkoot= Kenai’s nature-loving father. After the death of Sitka and Kenai’s transformation, tries to kill Kenai in bear form (in other words, Denahi’s role). Two reasons for dropping him: 1) the picture was unwieldy, switching from a father-son relationship in Act 1 to a brother-buddy in Act II 2) it was uncomfortable see a man trying to kill his son.
First draft: cub= Very first draft of “Bears”. A cub that is knocked down by a rogue bear and separated from his mother. The cub then finds a blinded, hurt bear and realizes it’s the rogue. Deciding against revenge, the cub helps him out.
First draft: rogue bear= A big male that cares about for no one but himself; but when battered befriends the cub. Realizes at the end when the cub stands up for him whom that cub was.
Grizz= Seen in deleted scenes. Kenai’s bear friend, huge and to be voiced by Michael Clark-Duncan. Grizz was going to have Koda’s role (with Grizz’s brother being the killed bear); his character eventually became Tug.
Personally, being biased I vote for Loki. Of course, plot wise, Loki wouldn’t have really helped much- Tanana doesn’t really need a pet or someone to talk to and the raven’s personality (heck, even gender) aren’t given. But hey, Loki was fun to play and ravens are cool.
What do you guys think?
