This is getting to be all too common in "Come out of the darkness," and I'm losing patience with it.
It feels like every other day now, another person pipes up, "I'm lost; can you tell me what's going on?" And whenever this happens, somebody inevitably breaks up the flow of the roleplay to recap everything that has happened up to this point. It's become a frequent occurance, to the point that it's getting ridiculous.
Please, people, try to make an effort here. I understand that it is difficult; life will always get in the way. It is frustrating to come back to the roleplay and find that, in just a few days' time, the roleplay seems to have moved on without you, and everything has changed. Often I've been hung up on writing a post, and took a break to think about it, only to come back and find that my idea can no longer apply because, ICly, the situation has been resolved by some other means. The moment has passed.
But, for one thing, we are currently experiencing a lull in activity in "Come out of the darkness." Occasionally it picks up, but things have been happening very slowly for the past few weeks, even months. If you miss a few days, you usually haven't missed that much. It can't take you that long to find where you left off and read up to the present. Even if you are many pages behind, you've had plenty of time to catch up during this dry spell.
Now, that's not always the case, of course. There are times when this roleplay moves very fast; in the past, whole pages have whipped by in a single afternoon. I know from experience how difficult it is to follow at such times. And for someone like myself, an admittedly slow writer, trying to make a post that is relevant to the action can be a nightmare. The page might have moved on by the time you are finished writing a single post, and by then your actions can have no effect, and you have to start again.
I am more accustomed to roleplaying on MUCKs, and other MU*s. Usually, there is a posing order, which, in a live setting, generally works very well. But on a board like this, where people (myself included) often go for days without posting, it wouldn't work so well; nobody wants to wait several days for the action to continue, and to some extent that is already the case here. Taking on a pose order would not help in this case.
At the moment, I don't know anything more to say. But please, make an effort to remember what page you were on last, and read what has happened since then for yourself, before you go asking someone to fill you in. It will make things run more smoothly for everyone.
