Just another update... He's been set back a few days. Lately, he had been drowsy- always sleepy, very confused, falling asleep during therapy and worse of all, falling and getting a lump of the side of his head. My parents, both of whom have medical experience, asked to see his medicines. On it was Remeron. They said it was given to increase appetite. Remeron, for those who don't know, is an anti-depressant which has possible increase of appetite as a side effect. It is not recommended for people over 60 (which my grandfather is) or with high-blood pressure (which my grandfather has). Its other side effects include: drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, low blood pressure, and feeling of uncoordination, confusion, poor memory, sores in the mouth, allergic reaction, flu symptoms, seizures, and fast heartbeat. More information can be found here: www.drugs.com/remeron.htmlWhen my parents confronted them about this, they said they gave it to all patients that enter; however they took it off and replaced with a drug specially designed to increase appetite. And then, a few days later the doctor called and took credit for having noticed he was drowsy and deciding to take it off. I'm so upset- they could have at least hurt him terribly- that was no doubt the reason he fell. It's bad to do give anyway a a potentially harmful drug they don't need- let alone give it to everyone! And what if my parents didn't know what Remeron was? It wouldn't have been stopped and they would have said they needed to keep him even longer. Now that he's been taken off it, he's thankfully been a bit better. He's more alert and hasn't fallen since. -EbonyPatriot

I'm shocked to hear that. I can't believe that there really are such incompetent doctors out there. I've been seeing it more lately. I'm really glad your parents spotted it in time and that your grandfather is doing much better now. You still have our best wishes to ya. Goodluck EP!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about the setback; that sounds like a truly appalling oversight on the hospital's part. It's a very good thing your parents know their stuff. Nevertheless, it's good to hear these updates. I think of you and your grandfather often, and as always I wish you the best.

This was really not ok.You are lucky to have such parents and you should really check if that was against a law.But at least he is ok now so I and the rest hope he gets fit soon.

Doctors these days... they killed the husband of my mom's friend... and my grandfather. The husband of my mom's friend was in a car accident and said his head hurt. All the doctor did was give him pain killers and told him to go home, that night... he died in front of his family due to the neglect of the doctor. They found my grandad's cancer after he'd had it for months... he died a few hours after they found it. And they'd been working on him all that time too!! And this is a similar case, they're just giving him whatever substance and telling him to go home. I feel horrible for your grandad and your family, y'all don't deserve to be going through this. And the idiot doctor ain't making it any better. But at least now he's off that horrible stuff and can get back to recovery.

A couple of weeks ago we managed to get my grandfather out of the rehab center and home with us. They wanted to send us a wheelchair (which he had spent almost all of his time there in); however, we just took a walker. He is doing wonders- he’s walking with just a cane now and has been cleaning up dishes and things on the floor, making his own bed and even taking books from my self and reading them. He had lost weight in the hospital; but he has gained it all back. (I think it help that he’s eating regular food, not pureed).
I was afraid that Shadow, my two-and-a-half-year-old golden retriever would jump on him; however, we did what we did with Marley (that is, sit with Shadow while she’s on a leash until she’s calmed down) and she hasn’t hurt him. My yearling cat Marley has accepted him too- she sits next to him and doesn’t hide.
I’m very proud of Bow- the first time the therapist came and made him my grandfather move in a way that made him call out, Bow barked, with ears back and tail stiff with his spine. We reassured him it was all right and stopped. However, he still stays with my grandfather the entire time the therapist is here, watching them closely and presses himself against him.
I thank you all for your support- I don’t know how I could have gotten through his illness without it.
On that note, we’re going to stay with him in his own house for a while. He doesn’t have a computer; so I won’t be own much for a while. I don’t when I’ll be able to post again- maybe I’ll get some time.
Once again I thank you guys; and I’ll see you when I get back.

Whoops... bit of a late reply here, but better than none. I'm so glad to hear that your grandfather has regained most of his mobility. And he's even doing chores, so things are really looking up for him, and your family.

Sorry that my post is so late as well; but I'm very glad to hear of his recovery! And that's sweet that Bow feels protective of him. I do look forward to seeing you back around here. Best wishes, as always. ^^
