I don't know if you guys have heard about this or not, but for the first time since 1905, a filly has won the Belmont. The Belmont is the third and hardest race of the Triple Crown- this year, as you guys may know, a colt named Street Sense won the Kentucky Derby and another colt named Curlin won the Preakness. The filly, Rags to Riches, is a granddaughter of Seattle Slew, who was the only undefeated Triple Crown winner. She managed to win by a nose over Curlin and the others colts. Her trainers and owners were excited- girl power! No, seriously- fillies don't win too many of the big races against colts and geldings. Heck, the Kentucky Derby has had only three filyl winners since 1875. You can read more about Rags to Riches here: www.cnn.com/2007/SPORT/06/09/belmont.stakes.ap/index.html
