Tuke, in turn, does not meet his father's gaze. "Well..."
"Not really, no," Rutt finishes for him.
Tuke looks up again. "It was a long time ago that we split up. She could be anywhere now, eh."

Qoheleth's face fell. "Er well..." the stag said, thinking. "Do you remember what she said to you before you two left?"

Tuke shrugs. "'Goodbye, take care?'"
Rutt shakes his head. "No, there was more to it than that, eh. It went like...like...may the...the Spirits..."
"'May the force be with you,' I think."
"No, that's not it, hoof-for-brains."
"Well, what was it, then? 'Live long and prosper?'"
"No, just..."
"'Those kings will always be there to guide you...'"
"Knock it off, I've almost got it. Okay..." Rutt takes a deep breath. "My sons, you are no longer calves. The time has come for you to make your own paths in the world. Though I may not be by your side, remember that my love will be with you, always. Tuke, don't slouch like that."
Tuke straightens up, embarrassed. "I'm not slouching!"
"No, that's what Mom said, eh. 'Don't slouch like that.'"
Tuke paws the ground. "You can't even remember your last meal. How'd you memorize all that, eh?"
Rutt shrugs. "Just stuck with me, I guess."
Tuke stares at Rutt for a moment. Then he shakes his head. "How is that going to help us find her, anyhow?"
"Don't ask me, eh. Mr. White-Tail just asked what Mom said before we split up, so that's what I told him."

OOC: ROFL!!! My gosh... Rutt and Tuke's conversation was so funny... ;D BIC: Roanoke and Qoheleth watch the back-and-forth conversation, using quotes that will someday be famous. "They seem... interesting," comments Qoheleth. "That's one way of putting it," replies Roanoke dryly. "So..." says Qoheleth after they finished. "Do remember her... dream location?"

OOC: Thanks, eh, glad you enjoyed it. ;D Sorry for the delay...I confess even I wasn't entirely sure what Qoheleth meant. "Huh?" Tuke looks blank for a moment. "Ya mean...like..." he pauses, and glances at Rutt, who merely shrugs; Tuke continues, "where would she really like to go, if she were on her own and didn't have to think about feeding a calf, and all that?"

OOC: Tis all right. Er sorry about that- should have explained Qoheleth more. BIC: "Exactly," says Qoheleth, rounded ears cocked forwards. The old stag's eyes gleam with excitement. "Do you know it, by any chance?"

"Oh, of course! That's easy, eh? But, uh..." Tuke looks at Rutt helplessly. In truth, he doesn't have the slightest idea where his mother's ideal location would have been. Neither does his brother, apparently, so Tuke attempts to improvise. "You remember this one, right, Dad?"

Roanoke's brow crinkles, his mind digging deep into memories. "For some reason I want to say Manchester... No, no, Man-varg? No no no... Manitoby?" Great, thinks the Moose. I'm starting to sound like my sons...

"Time's up!" crows Tuke, looking rather smug.
"Yeah, I believe the correct answer was 'Manitoba,' eh?" adds Rutt, gleefully. Of course, he wouldn't have been able to recall the name so quickly had Roanoke not come so close to it himself, but Rutt's not going to let that on if he can help it.

Roanoke's ears flatten. "Then why didn't you say the answer?!?" he barks.
"Well than," smiles Qoheleth, eager to avoid a fight. "Let's getting, shall we? Which way is it?"

"Whoa, just wait a second there, eh?" Tuke glances at the sky, more to stall for time than anything. "Manitoba's not just next door. This could take months..."
"Two months," says Rutt matter-of-factly.
Tuke snorts. "How are you so sure, eh?"
Rutt shrugs. "I'm not. I mean, I could be off by a few weeks...give or take..."
Tuke shakes his head, turning back to Roanoke. "So we could be out searching for her for months, years...even when we get to Manitoba, we don't know where she is..."
"So, you're saying you don't wanna go?" Rutt looks at his brother beseechingly.
"Well...no..." Tuke sighs; Rutt's eyes are round and wide and shining. "Just...stop that, now. Are you a bull or not, eh? I'm not saying I don't want to go, I just...want to be sure you're all...prepared for a long trip, is all."

"Well," smiles Qoheleth. "Long trips don't bother me. Besides, we can always ask around to find her- how many moose could be there?"
"Or me," chimes in Roanoke. "I'll do anything to see Dulcis again."
"Which way is it?" asks Qoheleth again, head raised.

"Right," says Tuke, "beauty. Okay, so first we need to head east...I think."
Rutt, who had already taken several steps toward the trees, pauses to look at his brother. "You think?"
"I mean...I think that I know, eh?"
Rutt looks skeptical. He shakes his head, and moves on. "Whatever you say, eh?"

Qoheleth starts eastward, his stride proud and silent. "East it is. Come on."
Roanoke shakes his head and starts on the long trail, head high and ears up.
"So..." asks Qoheleth when they have gone but a few yards. "Anyone know anybody know any good travelling songs?"

OOC: Oh geeze, I'm sorry! Time got away from me. I didn't mean to leave you hanging here again. BIC: Tuke grins. "I thought you'd never ask, eh?" "Oh-oh," says Rutt, glancing at Roanoke. "There'll be no stopping him now, eh?" "Come on, little brother, sing along! We'll make it a duet." "No, that's okay...you just go ahead. You'll be better off solo anyhow." "Trample off, eh, it's no fun alone!" "Well, you won't be alone, eh? I'll just...I'll just keep time." "Oh, suit yourself, spoilsport. Tell everybody I'm on my way..." Rutt winces as Tuke misses each note. "... New friends and new places to see..." "Geeze, you sound like a wounded human! Lemme show ya how it's done..." Tuke chuckles as Rutt picks up the song; the brothers proceed to sing their rather unusual duet. "We could use a few more voices," says Tuke, as he pauses to laugh.
