Tug smiled as the group headed to the river to find their dinner. He came up beside Hoonah as she watched them and nuzzled her on the check. "It's nice to see new animals coming to the salmon" commented Tug on the scene before him to her.

Footpad scurries aside to avoid Kenai's practice swipes, though he's already well out of range. He snickers when Kenai trips; watching him try to catch real fish should be fun.
Nita hardly notices this little scene; she's preoccupied with a growing anxiety as the river looms closer. Old fears are not easily dispelled, and though hers is not nearly as intense as it once was, the water still makes her nervous. Fishing is not an enjoyable experience, but she needs the practice in the coming days. She takes deep, calming breaths as she approaches the water's edge, finally glancing up at the others to see what they do.

As they reached the river, Denaik looked over at Kenai, hoping to see something amusing. And sure enough, on Kenai's second try at catching a fish, he fell face first into the river with a big splash. Kenai struggled to get out of the river and sat down with a look of frustration on his face.
"Y'know, berries sound really good to me right now..." He got back up and started to head into the forest for some berries but Denaik stopped him.
"Hey, Kenai!" He said, smirking. "It's more like this." He watched the water for a second, and in one swift movement, there was a fish in his mouth.
Kenai rolled his eyes in annoyance, then turned to Nita. "You want some berries?"

Footpad watches the show eagerly, and he is not disappointed. He rolls over, laughing long and hard -- just a bit longer and harder than he might on a full day's sleep. He eventually trails off, still giggling quietly every so often.
None of this is very encouraging to Nita, and Kenai's suggestion is tempting. She looks at the water for a moment, closes her eyes for another, then looks back at Kenai.
"Maybe," she sighs. "Save some for me, just in case. I think I'm going to try this, though."
Footpad sits up, rubbing a teary eye. Biting back another laugh, he raises a paw. "Hey, bring some here, wouldja?"
With a disapproving look for the raccoon, Nita returns to watching the water.

"Sure thing, I'll save you a few. I'm not sure if that was an open invitation though." Kenai says, directing the last part to the raccoon. He then walked back into the forest, hoping to pick up a scent for either berries or roots quickly.
Deniak was still smiling at Kenai's blunder, but it was immediately wiped when he saw Nita's worried expression about catching dinner. Was this really a problem they had all the time? Their cub had to catch their food? As Kenai disappeared from sight, Denaik walked over to Nita.
"Do you want some help?" He asked, bearing a straight face.

Tug couldn't help but be concerned when he saw Kenai trip from practicing his fishing. He looked at Hoonah and said "I'll go talk to him..."
Tug got up and entered the woods after Kenai, leaving Hoonah to watch the others at the river.

In the woods, Kenai was having difficulty finding any food at all. Disappointed, he sat the down. The leaves sticking to his paws reminded him of his recent fall and he shook them off angrily, sighing. After he shaking off the leaves, he heard a sound coming from the bushes he had just crossed through.
"Who's there?" He said, his head jerking to the side toward the noise. He rose warily to his feet and sniffed the air, suddenly very tense and alert.

Tug pushed through the underbrush following where Kenai had gone, when he heard Kenai say "Who's there?" in a anxious tone.
"Relax Kenai, It's just me" said Tug as he entered where the bear was sitting.

"Oh, hi Tug." Kenai said, sighing with relief. "Did you want some berries too?"

"No, I came to talk to you Kenai." answered Tug. He looked away from from Kenai and scratched the side of his neck awkwardly. "You seem to be having a tough time." said Tug, who then turned to look at Kenai with a look of genuine concern on his face. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked the big bear.

The big bear was innocently approaching dangerous waters. "Uh...I don't know what you mean, Tug." Kenai said, looking everywhere but at Tug. His paws suddenly became very interesting. He knew exactly what Tug was talking about and it couldn't have been anymore obvious.

Tug sighed at the Kenai's reaction. The big bear stated "Kenai... I know."

Footpad's smile falls just slightly at Kenai's last remark, but he expected as much. He shrugs, brushing it off quickly. It didn't hurt to ask. Of course, it probably wouldn't have hurt to ask a bit more politely, either.
He turns to watch Nita instead, though so far she's not nearly as entertaining as her husband.
Nita looks at Denaik hesitantly, appreciative of his offer to help, but ashamed that she should need it. "Er, no, thanks...I think I can handle it."
She turns back to the water, already wondering if it's too late to change her mind. She stares at the surface for a long while, watching for movement. For a long time, nothing appears, and the building suspense makes it hard to stay focused. Every little sound is a distraction -- such as an exaggerated yawn from Footpad.
Finally -- a glint of scales. Trying to imitate the motions of Koda and Denaik, she lunges forward, but the sensation of falling headfirst causes her to jerk back in a panic, her paws slipping out from under her. In desperation, she swipes at the fish with a paw, succeeding only in splashing herself in the face. The fish escapes untouched.
Footpad snickers, but only for a moment; Nita only sighs dismally. She looks up at Denaik. "Maybe...just a few pointers?"

"Maybe...just a few pointers?"
At the request for help, Denaik walked over beside Nita.
"First of all, you're too tense. Loosen up a bit, take a few deep breaths. Ok, when you go for a fish, dig your hindclaws into the earth so you don't fall head first into the water like Kenai did." He snickered a bit at his last remark.
"So it's lunge foward, grip back. Got it?" He asked, demonstrating what she was supposed to do.
________
"You do?!" Kenai said in shock. Then he regained his composure. "I mean, know what? That I can't fish? That's pretty obvious." He said, trying to cover up his surprise. Tug couldn't possibly be talking about that.

Tug replied "I know you can't fish, but I know why you can't fish." Tug paused at the point that he had been trying to reach "It's pretty obivious Kenai... you're in an in-land bear."
