Greetings comrades. I read Truttle's post about "The Bear" and that got me thinking- what other movies and books are like BB? So I'm asking all of you guys to please mention any and all book/movies with Brother Bear-related settings, (time or place-wise), story, characters, or any animals seen or at least mentioned in the movie (i.e. bears, wolves, moose, sabre-tooth tigers, etc.) and then say why. Right of the top of my head I can say: Balto = Far north setting; it also has wolves, huskies, (remember in BB when Denahi is bitten by a husky?) and bears. and the book Nomads of the North by James Oliver Curwood= Far north wildreness setting, and the main charcters are a dog named Miki and a black bear cub named Neewa. I'll post more tomorrow. So folks, what else can you think of? Live long and prosper. -EbonyPatriot

I'm baaaaaaaack, and here's some more! Nikki, Wild Dog of the North The Disney film version of Nomads of the North (they changed the dog's name to Nikki, added some plot element, and changed the ending) featuring huskies and bears. Fun and Fancy Free An OLD Disney movie; anywho, the first features the story of Bongo, the Wonder Bear. (There's a ton of bears in this one as well as I believe the first female bear seen in a Disney Feature-Length film). I'll post more tomorrow eh? Live long and prosper. -EeonyPatriot

Now that you mentioned this, I remember an old movie I saw once where two kids who I think get lost in the woods or something, and for some reason they are magically transformed into bear cubs. They get adopted by a female bear and she takes care of them like they are her cubs. The kids randomly transform back and forward between forms.
I swear that this was a real movie I saw.I just can't remember the name of the title. I have no idea about how to find it either.

In some ways, 'Whale Rider' (Movie) is similar to Brother Bear. It has something to do with the Native Americans, and revolves around a girl named Pae (Pie). She has to prove that she's the headman of the band, but her grandfather doesn't accept the fact, so she finally has to become what one of her ancestors was- A Whale Rider. Very beautifuly done, I'd say.

Truttle: Hmm do you know any of the actors in it? You could check it out IMDb.com- that sounds like a good movie. Naluna: Never seen that one, it sounds good. Okay, here's some more for I wnat to mention! Beyond the Timberland Trail- a story about how the blood of Klaus (a purebred shepherd) inteflows through three generations of wolves to throwback. Far North setting, wolves, and even an old grizzly bear! Grizzaly Falls- A movie about a young boy named Harry who wants to hunt bears. Together with his father, they capture two cubs (they have the white collar of hair like Koda ). But then the mother bear gets her revenge by kid-napping Harry! Kinda like BB only without the Transformations and the talking animals. Far North setting, wolves, a young former-bear-hating guy learning about how the bears really are, and of course bears! I don't know any of the actors names for that movie, but I have tried doing a search on it before. The funny thing about that is that that's how I found out about the production of Brother Bear years ago. I was doing a search on two brothers with a bear transformation in it, and Brother Bear came up. Back then, the concept was still a bit sketchy, as they were working on the basis for the movie, but it was still pretty much what they had going now for the movie. A transformation into a bear. I had been excitingly anticipating Brother Bear for a long time before it came out and I must say that I wasn't disapointed with the outcome.

That reminds me, I remember seeing a movie when I was young that had children who were running from something. They jumped into a river, and the whole scene changed into a cartoon. I don't remember much more than that, but I've been trying to find out what it was, if it was even Disney. I believe it had British voices.

Now I want to find out what movies Truttle and Warlock are talking about. It's driving me mad! Ahem, I've been neglecting this post shamefully, so!- Balto II: Wolf Quest: The sequel to Balto, this direct-to-video movie featured Balto's wolfish-looking daughter Aleu. When no one adopts her, she runs off; Balto follows her and they met a wolf pack. The wolf shaman leader Nava (who can become 'one with the tree'- huh??!?) tells everyone that they have to follow the caribou across the water to survive. His leadership is threatened by the rogue young male Niju (Go Niju!). The story has a totem pole and many spiritual themes and animals that Balto encounters: Raven= Guide; Caribou= Life; Wolverine= Your Fears; Fox= The Cunning Trickster; and the Bear= Inner Knowing (I assume as apposed to outer knowing ?!?) Flight of the White Wolf: A story that tells about a huge pet white wolf named Gray that escapes after killing a boxer. It's basicially about how his human friend Russ tries to help him escape the outraged community who deman his death. Russ and Gray's flight from the ignorant people is reminicest of Kenai and Koda trying to avoid Denahi; obvisously also has wolves. Balto III: Wings of Change: Okay techianlly I shouldn't be posting this as I haven't seen it yet (and won't until it comes to America in February 2005) . It tells about how a pilot comes to Nome, threatening the jobs of the sled-team lead by Balto's son Kodi. A friendly race is held between the plane and the dogs, but then the plane crashes. It's now up to Balto and Kodi to save the pilot. (I found this info on the sites of Steetboris and Acanis.) Anywho, according to Acanis's site there are two moose in this movie: a Robert DeNiro "you talking to me?" style one and another "Good Feathers- Animaniacs/Good Fellas" style American-Italian gangster moose." (According to Acanis they get a bit tedious, unlike our beloved Rutt and Tuke!!) ;D If you want to see a picture of the moose, check out: fluke.theicecave.org/balto3screenshots.shtmlStarting from the bottoom, it's about the eigth pic up (inbetween the close up of the grayish-brown dog's head and the one of the same grayish-brown dog laying on his back with a purple-grey-winged goose standing above him {well okay to his right but you get the idea}). Live long and prosper. -EbonyPatriot

Warlock: Was it The Water Babies? I've never seen it myself, and what I've read regarding the plot at the IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078477/) and Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007GZR9/qid=1100047642/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-2432186-0335248?v=glance&s=dvd) seems widely varied, and often conflicts. What I do know is that it involves a young British boy who ends up in an animated, underwater world, and naturally has a musical adventure.
Anyway, back to the subject of movies related to Brother Bear, there is, of course...
Ice Age: Three animals reluctantly set out together to return the baby Roshan to his tribe. Featuring, naturally, mammoths and sabertooth tigers, the movie shares a number of common themes with Brother Bear; also, though this is mostly irrelevent, there's a brief mention of cave bears in a deleted scene, featured on the DVD.
Alaska: Two kids, a brother and sister, set out across the Alaskan wilderness to find their missing father, whose plane has crashed in the mountains. The movie features gorgeous scenery, a fairly well-done story, and a rambunctious polar bear cub.

Never Cry Wolf - Carroll Ballard's 1983 adaptation of Farley Mowat's autobiographical novel turns his life-changing experience studying the wolves in Canada's inhospitable North into a moving drama of one man's courage and discovery of nature's majesty. Charles Martin Smith plays green biologist Tyler, sent by the Canadian government to "prove" that the wolves are depleting the caribou herds, but what he finds is a natural world in perfect harmony where he becomes a tolerated outsider. Dumped unprepared in the wilds by a hard drinking bush pilot (Brian Dennehy), Tyler learns survival skills from the aged Eskimo who saves his life and the rules of coexistence from a neighboring wolf (which results in a literal pissing contest as man and beast mark their respective territories). Tyler's journey culminates in the majestic run with the wolf pack, an exhilarating sequence where for an instant he becomes one with natural environment of the wilds. For all its beauty, however, Tyler's experience becomes a bittersweet lesson as the encroachment of hunters, tourism, and the social landscape threaten the natural order. As in his previous film, the delicate and lovely The Black Stallion, Ballard's astounding visual treatment captures the awesome natural beauty of the Canadian wilderness with power and poignancy. Kevin Costner's Oscar-winning Dances with Wolves explores many of the themes presented in this film, but without the resonance or beauty of Ballard's unsung masterpiece. --quoted from amazon.com

Yeah, from what my dad said, it being filmed in Queen's islands and its basically about preserving the Kermode bears, a rare species of the black bears that are white instead of black. There's supposed to be singing in it, too.
